Everything upset me tonight…
Today roll call for band was 11:15 am… we had an away game which happened to be 3 hours away at the school Mr. V used to student teach. So we all loaded on charter busses and drove for three hours so that we could eat dinner with this absolutely awesome band, play a concert with them, and then go to the football game. (Of course after which we loaded the busses again for another fun-filled 3 hour drive home.) I was hoping for a good time, but that didn’t happen. Band has not been fun since like band camp or something… ok I take that back. Last Friday night we had fun at the game, but the rehearsals and tonight were torture.
The band we saw tonight has something like 300 members. They’re AWESOME. They sound great, look great, act great, and they have a good time doing it. I wish I were in that band… you have no idea. That was the first depressing thing for our 143-person corp-style band.
It ticks me off how much some people don’t care. There ARE some of us, no matter whether we complain about Mr. V or not, that really DO care, and really DO thank him so much for how far the band has come since last year. But there are way too many people that couldn’t care less about how we look, or getting a 1 at states. They make me sooo mad. I feel bad about it, but I just started bitching at them tonight. (I started out a little pissed off at the game, and that was just bad cause there was no reason for my original pissiness.) Anyway, it’s like Joe… he’d play his sax when the band wasn’t playing, so I’d yell at him to stop. His response was always something like, “no one is going to hear that.” Well, duh, no one will hear one instrument, but if you allow 1 person to play their instrument out of turn, everyone will soon be playing, and that CAN be heard. GRRR. Especially when what people like him are playing is really annoying.
Next thing. During 3rd quarter break, some people were totally unzipping their uniform jackets. Well, we’re supposed to stay in uniform. The other band wasn’t stripping – they had respect for the band. I know it was hot, so I unzipped my jacket but buttoned it. (It allows some air in the jacket but you still look good.) I told people they were allowed to unzip but had to button up. Of course everyone hated to be bitched at and half of them ignored me – oh by the way I’m a squad leader so it’s partially my responsibility to keep on people about stuff – I wasn’t just being stupid.
When we got done, we were putting our garment bags underneath the busses, and Buzz announced we had to go back in and clean underneath the gym bleachers or something. So we were going to put our uniforms in and go back to clean. Well Kelly, the flag instructor, came over and yelled at us that we couldn’t get on the busses – we had to go clean. GRRR. That SOOOO ticked me off. We were not even remotely looking as if we were getting on the busses. I just went off – we were putting our fricking uniforms away before going back. She always treats us like crap, even though the flags are the ones that LOOK like crap.
Then there’s the parent guy who’s ALWAYS really rude. Actually, there are a heck of a lot of adults who have no respect for us and tick me off to an endless degree. It’s really upsetting that they can’t understand how tired we are and that we’re WORKING ON IT. We’re not all the devil.
