dearest, loveliest Elizabeth

Is there no better line in all of literature? Well, actually I’m positive there is, but there’s certainly no more romantic line. On its own it’s nothing, really, but a few words. But in context I do believe those are the most romantic words… my heart just melts even thinking about them. Is there a (straight) woman on earth who isn’t madly in love with Mr. Darcy?

Madly in love. Madly in love in a book and madly in love in real life are such different things. You can fall madly in love with Mr. Darcy on paper (or in one of two amazing movies, one of which happens to be on TV right now), but in real life? If Mr. Darcy walked up to me this instant… in real flesh… well I simply wouldn’t be in love. Because he would be in love with Elizabeth, not me. And he would be human, with human flaws. And we would fight and never agree on anything… and quite frankly I don’t think he could ever put up with me.

Madly in love in real life is entirely different. Madly in love is all the beautiful feelings you feel when you see Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth finally get together, but with the reality of imperfection… imperfection that somehow makes you fall even more madly in love and makes you laugh until it hurts.

But I still rather enjoy madly in love on paper too…
