day 22
Well, it’s day 22 of my “get fit” kick. And, in those 22 days, I have worked out 19 times, and counted my calories 20 of the days. I’ve lost almost 7 pounds thus far – 23 more to go until goal weight – and while I know that’s pretty good, I wish it would happen faster! I am happy about my progress with working out, though. I almost had a heart attack the first day, and now the speed I was going that day is my slow speed. I’ve really been pushing myself this week – mostly because I’m trying to catch up with Chris, who’s pushing himself – and the sad thing is, I can never catch him! I blame the fact that I’m smaller and it’s harder for me to make the larger stride. 🙂
In other news, I am ridiculously busy at work, and for the first time in a long time (meaning ever) I feel smart, important, and, shockingly, somewhat organized. I actually think I’m doing a damn good job… I’ve been getting tons of compliments in the past two weeks from various sources – maybe I am in the right place. Maybe I can get ahead at this company – maybe I actually will want additional responsibilities someday. I’m smart again! Did I mention that??? I’ve had this 6 year dry-spell of not feeling smart, which really does a job on a girl’s self-esteem. Well, at least a nerdy girl’s.
That being said, I feel like my two different jobs are at total odds with one another. I actually feel like I’m two different people depending on which I’m pitching. With the config job, I’m smart – I’m the expert, I’m confident, and I shine. With the portal job I’m kind of lost, and disorganized… and wanting to hide in the shadows. No clue what I’m talking about, no clue how to proceed. Although it’s getting better. This week I’ve been writing sql to prep for the proof of concept, which has made me sort of ridiculously happy? I’ve missed that… it’s fun. And even if I’m not doing all the fancy joins or the stacked selects… I’m still getting back into something I actually (big shock) went to school for.
So I feel like my life is getting in order. I’m getting healthy, I’m getting in shape. I’m getting my work life in order – I feel powerful and intelligent and like someone to watch. Now to get this house in order… (I can’t do everything, right?) 😉
decisively,

RYN: There were a few standout moments on our trip. My favorite part was probably checking out Multnomah Falls, which is a little ways out of town but totally worth it. I’ve never seen a real waterfall before, so that was a new experience for me. About a mile down from the Multnomah Falls is the Ponytail Falls, which is where we were able to hike behind the waterfall and enjoy some gorgeous scenery. For more scenery, check out the Japanese Gardens or Mt. Tabor. The latter will give you an excellent view of the city from the east side. I’d also recommend checking out the Saturday Market (well, it’s also on Sunday) downtown, too. There are a lot of local vendors selling various goods, so its a good way to experience the culture of the city a bit. Downtown is actually where you’ll find a lot of cool places like the ones I mentioned in my entry. It’s pretty easy to get around and public transportation in that area is free, so take advantage. I could probably get a little more specific on places to go, but I guess it would depend on you and your mans interests and what you were looking for.

RYN, part deax: Seattle was cool, but like I said it didn’t have the same charm as Portland did. The public transportation wasn’t as good and the city was more expensive in general. That aside, definitely check out the famous Pike Place Market, just cuz. You might not be able to buy any fresh fish to take on the plane with you, but it’s cool watching them toss it around and shit. The market also has a couple of good places to eat (Piroshky Piroshky) as well as cool vendors to buy from. Not far from there is the Space Needle, which I would recommend going atop for the view but don’t bother eating at the restaurant unless you’d like to spend over $100 on a merely okay meal. Let’s see. The Seattle Art Museum was pretty cool. I’d check that out. There’s apparently a lot of good places to go to on different piers, but we didn’t get a chance to check a lot of them out except for this one restaurant. I don’t remember what it was called (I can find out) but they had the best f’ing biscuits I’ve ever had. Umm…yeah, that’s about all I remember of Seattle. I hope I’ve provided some help. I just gave general descriptions, so feel free to ask me for specifics, please.

OH! The Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum is next door to the Space Needle. Go there if you’re even mildly interested in music history/sci-fi.
