an entry… old school (continued)
continued from previous entry
The major issue with my room is this: I saved too much crap when I was younger. Moving out originally was not a big deal. I packed a bunch of boxes and bags, stuck em downstairs in the dining room, and hoped it would all fit in the van. Coming back is an entirely different story. It seems that that dining room cannot, in fact, forever hold all of my college belongings, which means my room must be prepared to receive, well, everything from my dorm room. AKA, lots of stuff. Its amazing the things you find stuffed into a large file cabinet of 4 long legal-size drawers that have amassed all sorts of odds and ends from the beginning of time, it would seem or at least my time here on earth. This includes anything and everything from band pictures, pictures of my cousins, a sticker album (much like a photo album except you know, for stickers), old Yoda Jedi journals, awards, programs from every concert Ive ever been to in my entire life, birthday cards from who knows what birthday, thank you cards, art projects, Spanish notes (because I almost have taken Spanish since eighth grade), life science notes, every notebook or folder I ever owned from 7th grade through 12th grade, including my 6th grade research project on the Mayans which ultimately wound up in the save pile. Simply because, well, I dont know Im obsessed with them. At any rate, Ive thrown out a lot of stuff I will never look at again, with the exception of all German notes and some miscellaneous late high school subjects that might come in handy some day (a notion which is of course ill-founded, seeing as how if I need the notes that wont make the 5 hour distance between myself at college and the notes in my file cabinet any shorter).
Ive now gotten to the point where my file cabinet is now almost full again, but at least its things I at least think I may look at sometime again in my life and dont worry, there are still several small piles of junk I sorted into the save clutter for which I need to find homes. There are also two desk drawers I seem to have conveniently forgotten about until just tonight that I havent even sorted through, not to mention a whole lot of bedding. Thats right the major of the problem in my room right now is my bedding from school. Normally I would say go ahead and stick it on your bed at home. Heres the thing: dorm bed = long twin bed, room bed = double. So off somewhere in front of my closet and drawers (that I have to get into every day of my life) theres a huge egg carton foam pad thing sort of rolled up in a huge way, and off the right of my bed are my comforter, blanket, and tons of pillows umm, well, yeah I just have tons of pillows. The pillows can stay (once theyre washed) Ill plop them on my bed. But the rest of it? MOVE!
This brings us pretty much to the present, excluding the list of books I would like to read this summer. Ive started Salman Rushdies Midnights Children which should take awhile, and I really would like to finish the Coe book I was reading for CSA and the Gandhi book I was reading for faculty mentoring group. Also Kerouac, some chocolate book, and my mind has gone completely blank. looks concerned- Well, my point was, there are tons of books to be read. On that note, Ill take a break from writing and pay attention to my chatters once again. smiles-
