The Santa Claus Fund
Every year, at about this time, the Toronto Star kicks off its annual Santa Claus Fund. It’s purpose is to raise money for needy families in Toronto so kids can have a good Christmas, and not go without. Maybe seems a little materialistic, but the good-heartedness is there. I absolutely love this campaign and have been trying to give every year, starting last year. Ok, so it’s been one Christmas, but that is the first Christmas I have had a credit card to donate with haha. I guess I could have mailed in a cheque, but still.
Anywho, I really love this campaign because there are so many kids that go without and it’s not fair. Not saying that every kid needs a new X-Box or whatever the lastest and greatest gadgets are but just to get something is great. This is why I am donating again. It’s an amazing cause and it’s a simple way to help make a child’s Christmas better.
"The goal is to raise $1.5 million to support the Santa Claus Fund, no easy task after a year in which many experienced evaporating investments, vanishing savings or the loss of employment. But it wasn’t easy back in 1906 when legendary Star publisher Joseph Atkinson believed such generosity from a wider community made our city better, and it wasn’t easy through World War I, the Great Depression, World War II or the wide variety of economic ups and downs over the past half-century." –Toronto Star, October 24, 2009.
I read this on http://www.thestar.com this morning and really liked it. It’s very true. Times have been hard in the past, yet we always get by so if everyone could give $10, it would make a huge difference in the lives of the needy.
