Swine Flu II

I’m really getting angry with the media and opposition parties in Canada right now.

The Swine Flu is a big deal for so many people. Canada has purchased enough vaccinations for every man women and child (of age) who wants it. That’s awesome. It’s the largest mass immunisation in Canadian history. I do wonder if that’s percentage or population wise because this it the highest Canada’s population has been in it’s history. Anyway, not the point.

The opposition parties are blasting the government because not everyone is immunised as of yet. Actually, about 26 million Canadians (or more?) have yet to get it. So the opposition parties are saying that the government has handled all of this improperly. I am NOT a supporter of Harper and his Tory government, but I dunno this seems a little much. A company cannot magically make 30 million plus vaccines over night. Granted, there is only one company making all of them, but they are doing the best they can.

Also, the opposition are saying that the government had all summer to deal and prepare for this and have dropped the ball. If my news watching serves me correctly, the vaccination was just approved by Health Canada days before it was released for use and immunisation. Thus, how can a government stock pile millions of vaccines when they aren’t even approved until a few days ago? They would have wated millions of dollars, and the opposition parties would have been after them over that.

And eveyone suddenly complains about long line-ups. Well when there are potentially 32 million people wanting a vaccine, of course there are going to be long line-ups. Doctors and nurses cannot immunise everyone at once. And then suddenly the sole company producing the shots had to change their formula so it would be safer for pregnant women. Doses were made and sent out and now the shots are being produced the old way for the general public.

Suddenly there was a threat of a shortfall, even though we knew it was coming and people are asking the government why there is a short fall. So governments decide to only vaccinate the most at risk people, because they would die first, in theory. Good plan, I think! Now the media are talking about how the long line-ups are all gone and it’s good. Well duh! They are going to be gone when there aren’t enough shots for the country and  it’s only high rish people being vaccinated.

Ontario is going to run out of the vaccines by weeks end. Isn’t this a good thing? It means that people who need the shot are going to get it or as many ppl as they can give it to, since there is a short fall of the vaccine since the company has made it SAFE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN!  So apparently it’s an issue that we are going to run out by weeks end- yet if we stock piled them the government of Ontario would be blasted for not vaccinating people. No government can win.

It’s easy for the opposition to stand back and say well do better. But it’s different when you are in government. I’m not saying things couldn’t be better. But hind-sight is 20/20. Being in opposition is easy because you have time to nit pick on governments instead of dealing with the issues.

Like I said, I am NOT a Harper fan by any means, but cut them some slack. They are doing their best with what they have.  I am not McGuinty’s biggest supporter, but for what they have been able to do with what they have, they have done a great job. People are getting the innumisation, and more will be made available next week. People just need to realise that 32 million vaccines are being produced and given out. it takes time. Things don’t get done over night.

And are they also taking into account the people who are CHOOSING not to have the vaccine? I’m not getting it, personally. I agree with you…the opposition needs to back off and find a hobby until after flu season.

We’re having the same argument in America, but it’s reversed. Obama is in power and the liberals are blowing it over here and putting EVERYBODY in HORRIBLE danger. Best Wishes for SURVIVING the SWINE FLU if you get it.

I think Toots up there just entirely missed the point of your entry. But then, she does that a lot.
