Make friends with what scares you

I’ve got a little girl I call lady.  She was jumping up and down in her crib at the time while she was supposed to be taking a nap.  I ask her, "Lady, what’s wrong?"

She said, "Mommy, the Monster scares me." 

"What’s the monster’s name hun?"

"I dunno" she says. 

I tell her to ask the monster for his name and to become his friend.  I told her to make the monster her friend and that you can’t be afraid of what you love.  She said she’d try that and she took her nap.

About 3 weeks go by and she starts her jumping during her nap time and I open the door and see 2 wasps flying over her head.  She’s having a blast but mommy has this thing with bugs so I slaughter them.  She starts bawling screaming, "MOMMY, YOU JUST MURDERED MY FRIENDS!"

How awesome of her to make friends with what scarred her, and what a conversation I had to pull out of my ass with that one. 

We played house tonight, I was big sister and she was the momma with two babies.  I acted up like she does sometimes just to see what would happen.  I threw toys on the ground and said no when she told me to do something.  She came up to me and gave me a big hug.  She said big sister, you know you can’t act like that, then gave me a kiss and went on her way.

Wow…I know we were just playing, but she showed me love when I was being bad and it right then and there made me feel guilty.  I told her what a good mommy she was by showing me love when I was bad.  That it made me want to be so good to her forever.

I guess this is the first time I’m looking forward to her next fit.
