Lay it Down
I’m tired and weak
Yet, I don’t sleep
For fear of the day slipping past.
Cling to the hour
With its waning power
And the deepening shadows it casts.
Sleep would be sweet
Though a form of retreat
And I’m stuck now in full forward gear.
So I stare at the wall
And softly recall
The path that brought me here.
I see clear to the end
Time isn’t a friend
It quickens, never slowing
What once brought a thrill
Now can easily kill
Was I happier not knowing?
Lay it down,
Cast it out
Let it go
Wonderful!
