Track/softball/theatre

DJ is finished with her track season.  It is a pretty short season for the JH.  She did well, her times improved and she started long jump this year too.  She did the 100 M hurdles, 200 M hurdles, 100 M dash, High jump and long jump.  She decided not to do the 4 x 100 relay this year.  The girls in her class have some troubles getting along (this has been going on since first grade) and she decided to avoid the drama and work on her individual events.  I think she was satisfied with her season.  Her mom and dad are sure proud of her.  She didn’t get quite as many blue ribbons this year, but she had a little more compition than last year, which was a good thing.

JD is still playing softball.  They are having their invitational this weekend.  Yesterday was cold/windy.  Today is supposed to be better.  I think they have had 2 games all season with decent weather.  Spring sports in NE MT is tough.  It’ll either beat ya, or make ya tough!

I’m busy right now with planning our annual Hershey track meet.  Last year we had 96 kids age 9-14 compete.  We are really looking forward to this years event.  We are trying to add a few more features this year, such as concessions (limited to burgers, dogs, drinks) and more volunteers to help shepherd the kids.  The people I have been able to catch up with are all excited to come back and help.  One of the schools east of us brings a bus load over and they are coming again this year.  They sounded very excited, said their kids had a wonderful time last year.  We are notifing more schools in the area this year.  There are other Hershey meets around, but I don’t thnk these smaller towns get information on them, because we have seen some of their kids in other sports and never have seen them at the state Hershey meet and know that they should be there.  The cool thing about Hershey is that if we host a meet and there are kids from 3 different communities in an event, they all 3 can go on to the state meet and represent their respective communities.  It is the highest placing kid from each community that qualifies.  And what an fun day the state meet is.  I am sad we will not be going this year.  DJ is too old to participate, and we will be going to ND for a wedding that weekend.

DJ tried out for and was given a part in the summer theatre production of  Grease.  That will be in July/Aug.  She will not know until later in the summer what her part will be.  It is not a title role, however, she will be busy as an extra in many scenes I am sure.  This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the Theatre.  It seems to get better every summer.  The director, who is now a full time resident of our fine community, has done a great job with promotion.  The actors he recruits are very good.  This year will even headline a couple of "known names"  Apparently he has "contacts"  Anywho, it should be a great summer for theatre.  They are doing Wizard of Oz and many young people from town are in it.  DJ could not audition for that because were are going to be gone for one weekend.  We will have to make it out for a show though.

Yea for DJ and track….why do girls always have to have so much drama???? Last weekend we were in Missoula for Windrunner’s conference meet….she finished 8th in the 5000 and ran her fastest time ever (17:55 for 3.1 miles)…she was happy and we were happy for her…
