Compliment

The other day I received what I consider to be the biggest compliment of my life.

In small town USA it takes the people who live in the community to run the community and to better the community.  I firmly believe that.

Many, many years ago, when my girls were little and attending preschool, I sat on the board of directors for the preschool.  One way or another I ended up being president of that board for a term.  At that time I had never served on a board and was a young mom and just kinda flew by the seat of my pants.  Once the girls "graduated" from preschool I left that board and began following other interests.

On a side note: Mr M and were discussing this the other day.  He is updating his resume because he is applying for the managership at his job.  We were putting in his volunteer information and I asked him if he was on the board of this that or the other of things he had been involved in over the years.  He said no, to some, just a member.  I said why is it everything I have ever joined I become a board member???? hmmm?

Back to my story:  About a month ago we were at a Walleyes Unlimited meeting (yes I’m on the board) and one of the younger members, who has small kids, was there.  She had just attended her last meeting of the same preschool board.  We were discussing making a donation to their scholarship fund from Walleyes Unlimited.  I asked her if she could disclose what their scholarship fund held.  She said that they use only interest earned to fund scholarships and that this past year had granted over $6500 in scholarship funds.  We decided that their scholarship fund must be doing pretty good and declined a donation to that fund.  We did however, decide to help them purchase a science/biology cirriculum.

After that this young lady said that after she investigated the scholarship fund, she was a little embarrassed to even ask for a donation and was pleased with our decision.  Then she said that if it wasn’t for things that I and the board I served on had put into place the preschool would not have ever had what it does today.  She was amazed at our (my) foresight that prevented the school from collapsing during a strech of declining enrollment.

Good news is, the enrollment is growing by leaps and bounds.  They have added classes and added more days to the older kids.  They are doing very well.

I was too embarrassed to tell her…I didn’t have a clue what I was doing!
