A few things…
Out here school doesn’t start for the kids until after the Labor Day holiday. Teachers have been back since last Wednesday. We’ve been in meetings most of that time, but there has also been some quality time in our classrooms. My room is actually done. I’ve managed to get all the purging done, reorganized my coat cabinet and my cubby cart, and put up my huge word wall. I think I’m ready. Just some lesson planning to do. My "theme" is Despicable Me Minions. I love minions. I have a few through out the room just to keep it silly, but not too distracting.
Kenzie turned 4 yesterday. 4. She was SPOILED rotten for her birthday. She had a small party in St. Louis at The Magic House, she got a family only "party" on Saturday with her Memaw and Popop. They got her a piñata (just like DORA!), and all sorts of presents. We of course got her some presents too. On her actual birthday we took her to Chuck E Cheese. For $10 you get a small (8 inch round) cake and Chuck E himself will bring it to you. Not a bad deal. Now she’s at that "It’s my birthday again! Let’s have a party!" part of her life…only she says this about three times a day and wants new presents each time. OYE.
She officially starts Pre-K on Monday (even though she’s been going for two weeks now. It’s the end of their summer program, but I needed her start earlier because I went back to work earlier).
Some of you may remember all the way back to when I was pregnant…and a few may even may remember before that. Can you believe how much has happened since then? It’s crazy.
I didn’t watch the VMAs, but based on my Facebook news feed I should have. I admit that I searched YouTube for the Miley Cyrus video. What can I say? She needs some guidance. She needs some hugs. I think back 30ish years to Madonna singing "Like a Virgin" and it was just as controversial. I think what she did was worse than Madonna. Madonna was just rolling around on the stage. Miley stripped, looked almost naked, kept rubbing her crotch and the crotch of others on stage…it was gross. It was not artistic expression. It was a big "F*U" to the people who still associate her with Hannah Montana. I’m sorry, but without Hannah…she wouldn’t have even been on that stage.
i appreciate F*Us, i really do, but hers felt so contrived and forced that it was just kind of sad. but, i’m pretty sure her goal was to get attention, and everyone’s talking about it and they’ll probably be bringing it up in clip shows for the next 30 years because we’re still talking about madonna, so yeah she’s still smarter than most of her critics, which is even sadder.

I didn’t see it on the VMA either and also had to look on youtube but I was sorry I did. I got disgusted and stopped watching. They say that it was good for her because it got people talking but I don’t know why anyone would want someone talking about doing something like that.

We talked about Miley in our house, too. My daughter loved the picture of Will Smith’s family watching her performance, it was hilarious. We went back on Wednesday. I need to seriously get organized in my classroom. As for your daughter, it doesn’t seem like it has been that long. My eldest bought a car, yesterday and he graduates from high school this year!

I haven’t watched it. I have no desire to really. I think what she did was dumb because all her Hannah fans…what a great role model Miley is now. Just sad. I hope she realizes what she did was wrong and stupid. Have a great first week of school! We start the day after Labor day too. The 7th and 9th graders start Wed. š
