Why I don’t Get the Flu Shot…

I’m sitting here listening to Dr. Oz talking about the flu shot and the flu and I can’t help but think about why I don’t do it.

I have gotten the flu shot a handful of times over the years and I no longer get it for several reasons.

1. I am a minimal inteventionist; I believe that getting a little sick makes your body a lot stronger. Its not that I don’t do immunizations but I have a problem with forcing people to do the newer immunizations especially the Chicken Pox vaccine

2. I can’t stand how sore it makes my arm when I get it… call me a wimp but it hurts like Heck and if its only a small percentage effective I don’t mess with it

3. In recent memory I have only gotten really sick the years that I have gotten the flu shot; isn’t that the time frame it takes to take effect? I’ve ended up with a severe respetory infection instead of the flu.

4. I believe in prevention… I take vitamins and with how severe this flu has gone I am taking Airborne to help with my immunity; I also wash my hands before I start working… I read that your hair can only hold a certain amount of moisture so I assume the same would hold true for the skin.

If I’m wrong its my choice but this is how I feel.

This year is probaly the #1 year people should’ve gotten the flu shot. I’ve heard of so many deaths and serious illnesses this year. Bad flu epidemic of the decade.

Have you met my mother? In a wheelchair for life because of a stupid shot… My kiddos proudly wear the badge of chicken pox scars. I don’t feel this is wrong. Vaccines can be good, but in my experience there have been too many personal problems in my imediate family. And I disagree with most of what Dr. Oz says… He’s nuts.

I don’t believe most of what Dr. Oz says… but there is no “if I’m wrong…” It IS your choice and you need to do what you feel is best for you. If I were healthy, I wouldn’t get it either because I do think our bodies need to build up immunities. I have several medical conditions including a nervous system dysfunction and I am on steroids which weaken my immune system so I DO get the flu shot

but that’s my decision (based on what my doctors say and what I feel is best) and nobody can tell me that it is wrong. That’s the beauty of free will.

Agh you post this as I’m agonizing over whether or not I’ve made the right decision to get the flu shot the other day being pregnant. I know that there are no proven links to autism, etc. from vaccines but I want to make sure I make the best decision. Also the fact that I am diabetic gives me more of a reason for getting it because the flu can be deadly to not only myself but the baby. I can’t

argue with your points though.

I have never had one.

I’ve taken them every year since I was diagnosed with cancer, because I do everything I can to prevent further illness.

I’ve gotten the flu maybe three times in my life and I have NEVER gotten the flu shot, even during the “bad flu” years. My child has not and will not get the flu shot. All we have to do is look at our friends who get the shot and then come down with the flu and every other gross illness afterwards. No thanks, we’ll just keep taking preventative measures and skip the shot! 😀
