The Hallway Conversation…
There are several students at my daughter’s school who are emotionally needy and several with severe anxiety about groups or loud noises. Two of those students have lunch in the hall every day at a little table right outside the office where they can be watched but are in reasonably quiet circumstances. Today I overheard a conversation between the two fourth graders…
The little girl asked the little boy if he had ever seen the movie "Elf"
The boy said he had seen part of it and the girl said that her brother was trying to kill Santa by going around and saying he wasn’t real. It is so refreshing to see kids that age still fully believing. The girl was determined that she was going to sing as loud as she could to make Santa’s sleigh fly. I just wanted to reach out and hug the two of them.

In other news I felt totally betrayed by my school today. I hold a total of four PTA meetings a year; October, December; February; and April of those four meetings one of them is a morning meeting. That was the meeting that was supposed to be today. I got to school at 7:30 and walked in with Maddie’s teacher (the doors are locked and the office staff isn’t in that early so I have to go in with a staff member). The custodian asked me if I was there to play with my boxes (the holiday shop merchandise arrived yesterday) and I said that there was a PTA meeting. She asked if that was part of the professional development meeting. Can we say Jen wasn’t happy?
Notices about the meeting went out two weeks ago and the meetings were all set in September so this shouldn’t have been an issue; it is the one morning meeting we had. I felt my blood boiling and I kind of attacked the assistant principal about it and of course the PD day won out. GRRRRRRRRR I had one parent show up and with my proxy vote and the proxy vote of the community volunteer that comes in I was able to get my motion passed easily.
Later in the morning the principal asked me if I was still speaking to them. I told her no. LOL… I don’t get up at five in the morning for nothing. I also told them that the meeting donuts were coming out of staff dinners for conferences since I had to shift them to staff appreciation. Which means we only have $75.00 for staff dinner one night during conferences. Frankly I don’t really care right now.
