A Piece of My Childhood….
For years my brother and I watched a show called "Happy’s Place" in the afternoons after school. We would wait for it every day to watch "Ducktales" or "Heathcliff" some of our favorite shows. I was in first grade the first two times I visited the set. They took all of us in Brownies and it was an excitement to sit on the bleachers and listen to our favorite Hobo crack jokes and play stunts. I think I went three times in brownies and then one more time in sixth grade when my parents forced me to sit with the Cub Scout troop. I should have skipped the interviews when it came to them but I was good and followed the rest of the kids around for the interviews and then for years afterwards I endured teasing for going so old.
Today I learned that the original Happy the Hobo passed away. He wasn’t very old and had a daughter who is younger than my Maddie. I had followed Happy on facebook and had no idea that he was so ill. I don’t usually trust Wikipedia for information but it said that he suffered from an immune disease and had been waiting on a Liver transplant. I suspect more information will be coming through as the day goes on today but the news was disturbing. There were several Happy the Hobos but none as good as the first. My heart goes out to "Happy"’s family in this trying time.
Oh… That is so sad. Not happy. I went once when I was Samara’s age.
