I hardly ever miss shifts, so it feels positively weird walking back into work after being absent, like I’m expecting people to ambush me about it. I may have a slight neurosis there somewhere.
I was heartened however, to see a reasonably full parking lot for a Sunday night. Lots of Mother’s Day celebants I’m sure, coming to participate in the ‘Queen for a Day’ promotion. It does the heart good I tell you, to see so many people intent on Freddie Mercury impersonations.
-sigh- Sadly, I jest, ‘cuz that would be awesome.
I’ll make this one brief as we really didn’t have a lot on tap for the night, so to speak. I started the night with a lovely migraine but it did finally bugger off by night’s end, which was appreciated greatly.
Charon and I went over scheduling. While I’m technically booked for next Saturday night as well as this one, she did tell me that likely that would change, so hey, that’s cool. I told her I was fine with that, so we’ll see. 50/50 I end up getting the night off.
I also let her know about the concert night when I was going to be quite blatantly not there, due to an event I’m attending in civilian life. She was not only cool with it, she said not to worry over it, and there’s decent money that says I won’t even be scheduled.
Lastly – I asked how the -three bartenders in the weekend lounge- thing was working. She simply noted that it wasn’t being done that way. I about died. Dear gods, don’t ever let Charon leave us. She’s the best.
Traffic was steady, but not horrendous. A few clusters of regulars, but not a ton. Haley was cocktailing, and spent part of the night letting Mavin (our new guy cocktail server) shadow her around to get the hang of things. He took his own section later in the night and did quite well, by all accounts. He’s gonna make bank in the “bored widow” market, let me just tell you. They haven’t had a handsome male cocktail waiter in forever, and he’s native to boot, so hey. He’ll make bread, no doubt.
I had been nervous how the night would go as I was only a couple of days into the antibiotics, but as ever, getting started working kicks the brain into that gear and I got things done without a huge amount of difficulty. The night was a good one.
Closing observations :
- I’m fully expecting Charon to start putting movies on the big screen at this point. I kinda hope not, ‘cuz I don’t want her to push it too hard against the grain, but it’s good to have a supervisor who’s not only quite capable, but feels like she’s one of us at the same time.
- It was kinda odd having Marvin walking around, honestly. The last male server we had was a complete prima donna and didn’t last a month. He also came around after work, got drunk off his ass, and was basically an obnoxious prick. Can’t imagine why he was single.
- Sundays continue to be good money days. Let’s hope that trend persists.
Next up : Thursday (at the service bar)
