Don’t tell him it’s wrong to say I’m fat…
Reading The Cow Goes Moooo (do you HAVE to have such a difficult
diarist name LOL) entry today reminded me of something a friend of mine
told me years ago and I decided to put it in here today.
I had a
very close friend some years ago by the name of David. He, actually,
was the first one I knew to get obesity surgery. David was about 64
and must have weighed 400 lbs. or close to it. He was, needless to say,
immense in size. One day, before he got the surgery, he was waiting at
the bus stop and a mother and young child were there. The child asked
him, Why are you so fat? or something like that. The mother quickly
told the child, Shhh
dont say things like that!
David
corrected the mother and told her, Dont tell him its wrong to say
Im fat, because thats the truth. But do tell him its wrong to say
that being fat is bad, because no one should judge me because of it.
I like that very much. Brielle ponts out big people all the time and I usually say something like ‘ sometimes when we eat the wrong food we can get fat…. or sometimes when people are sick they can get fat… but thats okay. we are nice to everyone .. it doesnt matter what they look like.’

Americans of course are the fat champions. It’s your national disease. I don’t know how one can let oneself become obese. I have to admit being utterly repelled by it. ‘Illness’ is no excuse: there were no fat people in Auschwitz. Maybe it’s self-punishment, a total lack of self-esteem? Dunno….
