Dad Is Coming Home

Dad will be coming home Friday morning. His therapy when he is having a "good day" is going well. He can just transfer with a sliding board now no standing at all. Since his last surgery with the anesthesia his Parkinson’s and dementia has sped up and has taken a toll on him. The Dr. and therapist stated at this time [and possibly never]  he could not get a prosthesis.  The Dr. in re-hab and the social worker wanted him to go to a Nursing Home. Mom at this point told them "NO" that she would take him home. We did go and look at a nursing home and decided if he had to go and they had a bed this was where it would be.  It is about a mile and a half from the house. The one that is 2 blocks from the house does not have a skilled nursing option.  The Dr. was not happy, but oh well. Mom has 30 days to decide after she brings him home if she can handle him or not. Then if it is over the 30 days he has to do a 3 midnight stay in the hospital again so Medicare would pickup the care again at a nursing home. The occupational therapist sat and had a LONG talk with him today about how he had to do what he was doing there when he got home. Dad said ok and I hope he understood and does continue. Mom asked him Friday why he was so nice to all the therapist and didn’t get frustrated and cuss at them, but did us. He stated, "because I guess I can!"  Minh (OT) also told him today that he would not be able to treat us bad and he agreed that he would not. Tomorrow they will take him out to the car and watch him do that transfer so he will be ready to go Friday morning.
Mom went to the Dr. today and her Dr. was surprised because her right carotid artery was completely blocked and the left one was 65% blocked (I thought they had said 85%) from the arteriolgram/doppler study. Today, answered prayer because they were BOTH open and NO bruies. The Dr. told her what ever she was doing or did to keep it up because they were fine. YAY!!! So that is one worry off our minds. While she was at that appointment I was at the VA going through Dad’s patient orientation which lasted almost 2 hours. Things are going smoothly we are just exhausted. I fell asleep on the sofa at 7 tonight before going to my apartment. Kerry wanted to know when he could pick me up to go to the mall since he was going and I told him anytime but tonight!! ….lol
Anyways that is about all the news I have for now. Hugssss to all and THANK YOU!!!
