Kevin’s poem
This is a poem that K wrote me in 1993:
I am like a river
within my banks I flow
on my quest to the sea
my future; I don’t know
My wife is like spring run-off
gushing to find a home
trying to make it to my banks
before she’s all alone
We come together easily
I love her and we swell with pride
until the water overflows our banks
and we can no longer hide
Our currents are too much
for either of us to stand
so in the rage of our flood
I silently lose her hand
We crash and rip everything
that stands in our way
our emotions are like whirlpools
that form throughout the day
When nightfall comes and the
sun stops melting the cold and bitter snow
the flood waters do retreat
and within the riverbanks they go
Until the day that there is
no more snow to melt
the daily occurance of the
run-off is surely to be felt
But the river and the runoff
have slowly become one
and after everything returns to normal
and all the damage done;
It’s time for the river
to empty into the sea
and run-off and the river are one
as will you and me.
