Yee-haw
It’s 5:30 AM and I have no earthly idea what I’m doing out of bed right now, other than the fact that I woke up at 4:45 AM and the cats were desperate for breakfast so it was impossible to ignore them. All week I’ve been sleeping till 8 or 8:30, seemingly to make up for the fact that I was up at 5:30 for a few days last weekend as well. And now here I am again. Apparently I’ve developed an inability to sleep when Alan is home past his normal wake-up time of 4:40. Ugh.
And there’s this breathing thing he does that drives me absolutely fucking bonkers. Little tiny inhale, MASSIVE exhale. It’s out of all proportion! If I try to imitate it, I get out of breath. It’s not even snoring, which would somehow be bearable. It’s just really loud, hissy breathing. Gah!
Completely random, but I think the lieutenants who live across the way are bombed out of their fucking minds. While they weren’t loud overnight, shortly after I came out here I was treated to some delightfully off-key singing of a song so mutilated I couldn’t even recognize it. They were out on their patio too, so it was plenty loud. I can only imagine how much their upstairs neighbors enjoy it. If they’re lucky they’re heavier sleepers than I’ve been lately. Normally I can sleep through hurricanes.
We had dinner with Captain Souza and a bunch of other people from the unit last night. Sgt. Schulz wasn’t there, which surprised no one since Kelly had to go into the hospital a couple days ago and Layla is still in the NICU. Both should be getting released tomorrow. Or is that today? The Faulks were there along with Lt. Lincoln, Sgt. Baumiller and her baby, and Patterson. We ate at a new Greek place that’s part of a mini-chain called My Big Fat Greek Restaurant. It was mediocre food. I got lamb souvlaki. The lamb was delicious, but the rice was bland and mushy and there was a shocking lack of tzatziki sauce, unless you paid for extra. How can you have souvlaki without tzatziki? The calamari was great, not so overly breaded that it just tasted fried, and while chewy, not excessively so. Cassie shuddered at us east coast dwellers and our fried squid, since Alan and I shared and Patterson got her own (she’s from North Carolina originally). Apparently Cassie, growing up in Wyoming, didn’t even know what it was until a few years ago. Hehehe. The Greek salad was just okay. They diced everything up so small that it seemed more like salsa than salad and there was too much feta and dressing. Imagine that! But they overwhelmed the vegetables. And the baklava cheesecake was really yummy. The sweetness of the honey and nuts set off the tang of the cheesecake really well. And I have to admit that the entertainment was interesting. Once an hour they dance, spit fire, and break plates in big fat Greek tradition. The fire was especially thrilling because it happened in the open space right behind our table. Close enough to be very warm. I still like Jake & Telly’s better and at least I know I’m being served Greek food by actual Greeks there.
We have some big plans this weekend. We’re going to do all of our weekend errands today and then head up to Anderson Farms in Erie, Colorado, near Denver, tomorrow for the corn maze and pumpkin picking. There’s also a hayride through the farm with visits from bison, a petting zoo, gourd launching, and punkin chunkin, which translates to ‘pumpkin chucking’ in plain English and involves shooting pumpkins out of an air cannon. There’s also live entertainment, camp fire sites and s’mores and lots of food. I think it’ll be worth the trip. Alan’s a little worried that I’ll get tired of walking through the maze when we’re in the middle of it, but their website says it only takes an hour or two and it’s flat farmland, not hills and mountain trails. I suspect I’ll be fine. But that’s another reason we’re going Sunday rather than today. Today’s temps are supposed to be in the 80’s and tomorrow it’s only supposed to be 75. I’m not a creature made for warm weather, especially warm weather at high altitude. When it gets hot I prefer to sit quietly and melt. And I’m especially sensitive to temperatures lately. All summer it was too hot and now I seem to be getting too cold. I have no happy medium these days.
Tomorrow marks the halfway point in this pregnancy. Still not showing excessively. My weight gain seems to go in bursts. A couple weeks ago, I hadn’t gained any weight at all from my last appointment, then I seemingly gained almost three pounds overnight. I weighed myself again yesterday and had only gained a couple ounces. I think overall that it works out. As of right now I’ve gained 11 lbs. total, which is the bottom of the good range. I’m only supposed to gain 11-20 lbs, but if I gain 25 it won’t be the end of the world, I know. The problem is that sometimes I’m just ravenously hungry! I’m not actually eating much more, but I’m not being at all good about exercising. That’s definitely something I need to change or the whole labor and delivery process is going to be miserable. It wouldn’t kill me to spend less time on the computer and go up to the gym now and then.
Anyway, since I’m up early and Alan’s up early, we might as well get the week’s dinners planned out and make a grocery list. I’m in the mood for Jax again, so I’m considering ordering a big box from the company website and doling them out to myself over time. I would just need a place to put the extras. I did finally cave and order two Bella Bands from the Ingrid & Isabel website. Luckily they’re having a sale right now. It should help with the pants situation, since it’s seriously uncomfortable to button my jeans now. I got a couple of sweaters last week at Old Navy and they’re big enough to see me through, at least as far as I can tell right now. I also seem to have found a liquid makeup that doesn’t irritate my skin, which is kind of epic if you know how long I’ve been searching. But I wore it all last night and not once did my face get itchy and I don’t have any break-outs to show for it this morning.
Like I said, time to start the day, even if it is still dark out.
