What’s the Story, Wishbone?
It occured to me just now that I probably watched way more public television than most of my generation, and certainly far more than most children now. Whenever they showed episodes of 3-2-1 Contact and Reading Rainbow at school, it was usually one I’d already seen. And I find myself remembering shows that lots of people have never heard of, like Zoobilee Zoo, Ghostwriter, and Wishbone. I do have to admit though, that Wishbone is probably the entire a big part of the reason why I’m as well-read as I am, at least in terms of the classics. What is more entertaining than classic literature re-enacted by a Jack Russel terrier? I read Ivanhoe and Pride and Prejudice because of that show! Seriously good stuff right there and we’re worshipping at the altar of Hannah Montana? What’s with that?
I don’t want to dwell too much on work. I gave Alisa my resignation, she spent two days passive-aggressively trying to make me miserable and otherwise sulking, then seemed to get over it. She had someone interview on Thursday. I heard from Dina that A.) Pam was going to talk to me (as if it would do any good) and B.) there’s a freeze on Care4Kids, which is going to seriously limit enrollment.
Otherwise, I’m looking forward to washing my hands of that place on Friday. I’ll get paid that day, plus again for my last week on the 19th, so that works out fine. I heard back from the East Haven family, but decided that I was going to take this opportunity to get the hell outta Dodge. Dodge meaning, of course, the childcare field. I’m going to try Kevin’s suggestion of a temp agency. Honestly, I don’t know why I never did it before because it’s certainly not the first time he’s mentioned it, and from what I’ve read about them, it sounds like the perfect situation for someone like me who gets bored and frustrated with a place after awhile. Although I’m sure Alan isn’t pleased about the money prospect, he is glad I won’t be bitching about the same things day after day. I think he actually likes having me stay at home sometimes, because it means we get to be together on his days off.
And fortunately, I’ve been hustling to pay down my credit cards the last couples months and I’ve been doing a great job saving money. Plus I got both state and federal tax refunds. And aside from being good with money, summer is a good time to be unemployed in terms of bills. No matter how much we run the fans, our electric is never as high in the summer as our gas is in the winter.
My plan for the afternoon is to go to the mall and get a nice interview suit. Skirt and blazer in a medium gray perhaps. Or just a black blazer to go with either the black pants of skirt that I already have. And a couple nice tops for underneath. I think I’ll pass on shoes. If I wear the black pants, I have a pair of black patent leather and suede t-strap heels that I love and silver and black flats for the skirt.
I just finished book #100 (The Jane Austen Book Club) and am now working on #101 (Rob Roy). I also have two more waiting in the wings. With a bit of extra time on my hands while I work out a new job, I should be able to get a lot of reading done before July. And about The Jane Austen Book Club, I have to say that I connected the most with Grigg. I loved the way he just threw himself into it. And I like Northanger Abbey best of Austen novels as well. And it did make me want to read The Mysteries of Udolpho. It’s on my list, but the Milford library doesn’t have it, so I’ll have to request it. I’m also going to request Justine by the Marquis de Sade… yes, that Marquis de Sade. LOL… it’s on the list of 1000 Books you MUST Read, so I thought I’d give it a try, even though it might raise a few eyebrows. ^_^
I really want to bake a raspberry-rhubarb pie, but I have no reason for baking it and Alan probably won’t eat it. I did, however, acquire a stock pot from the utility closet at work so I’m going to channel my cooking instincts into chicken stock instead. And maybe cookies.

I watched a lot of PBS as a kid, but I missed a lot of those shows, too. I’ve wanted to read Justine, but haven’t ever gotten around to it. Let me know if it’s worth reading.

Why don’t you start your own bakery? You always mention these wonderful sounding desserts you make and they always make me hungry. 😉 And I’m glad you’ll be able to get out of there soon! Yah! And I LOVED Wishbone. Both me and my sister. Great show. 🙂 *HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGS*

I eatched a lot of PBS too, espcially Sesame Street and Mr Roger’s Neighborhood. I just looked up Justine on Amazon and it sounds interesting, you’ll have to let us know if it’s worth reading or not.

RYN: I’ve participated in NaNo for a couple of years now, but I am so undisciplined that I’ve never won. I’m hoping this year that will change, since I now have mornings to write (I’ve realized it’s so much easier to write/exercise/do things around the house if I do them before work rather after–I’m usually so beat after work).

ryn: Thank you so much! ^_^ It still seems so surreal, even while staring at the ring on my finger, lol. It’s hard to believe, even though we’ve talked so much about getting married. But it’s real! EEEE! lol. *hugs* ~*Stephanie*~
