Tummy Warmer

If it could ever be said that there is something in the world better than a purring kitten, it can only be one thing — When that kitten decides that you are her mommy and that rather than cats you are both some kind of marsupial and she climbs into the front of your sweatshirt, occasionally patting your face until you lean down close enough for her to kiss your nose.

Such a wonderful thing does, however, tend to stretch out sweatshirts. =^..^=

Now Karma has abandoned her post as tummy-warmer and moved to the shelf to watch the nighttime world go by, which is fine by me because one hardly needs much warming up in June.

Today was my first day of official unemployment and I think I spent it at least somewhat productively. Alan and I got up early and went to a job fair in Shelton. It was disappointing but I did apply to be a party hostess at an arcade/amusement center here in Milford. I also got some good tips from a few other people. Alan did better, which was to be expected since most job fairs focus on sales reps and I’m just not a natural salesperson. Alan definitely is. So he has a phone interview tomorrow with AT&T, which is the one he’s really interested in. It’s a more typical work situation… Monday through Friday, 8-5. And pretty unlimited earning potential with commission. He also has another interview tomorrow afternoon with some company he applied to on CraigsList and another next Friday with Firestone for an assistant manager position at their Milford shop. Didn’t I mention that Alan is really very good at what he does? For myself, I registered with the Adecco in Milford and did the grocery shopping. Finally.

Working Monday through Friday like so many people, I generally go grocery shopping on Saturday mornings. Of course, on Friday the paychecks never got delivered. So my options were to either go home at my normal time (4 pm) and come back on Monday or stay until Pam showed up with checks written from the center’s business account. Of course, it was 3:45 when this option was presented to me and she hadn’t even left her own center to get the checkbook from her house in Stratford. Then she had to drive on I95 NORTH in the afternoon. Trust me. Not a direction you really want to go at that time of day, especially around West Haven (and Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Milford, and New Haven, for that matter). So I went back after we left the job fair this morning and Alisa has the gall to tell me that they showed up 10 fucking minutes after I left. What. The. Fuck. Her last act of petty bitchery, I suppose that she didn’t just fucking CALL ME and tell me that they were there given the fact that I probably wouldn’t have been more than halfway home and it’s not a long trip in the first place. Spoiled rotten little princess that she is, that was probably just too difficult a decision for her to wrap her itty-bitty brain around.

Serenity NOW!

Okay, I’m better.

Sort of.

And I really am feeling productive in my own unique way. I’ve finished three illustrations for my Karma book so far. Twenty-three more to go. I’m trying to really commit to this one.  I think it has a chance. At least more of a chance than my novels. Or maybe it’s just easier for me to pursue. Twenty-six illustrations may seem like a lot of work, but it’s nothing compared with rewriting a few novels (and yes, I have three first drafts for different stories).  I have been feeling a bit inspired on my most recent NaNoWriMo effort. I read Rob Roy and it gave me some interesting insights into the tempers of the times. My own story is set in Scotland very shortly after the Glorious Revolution and Scott’s novel is set about 30 years later. Who knows but I may have to change my setting or maybe just my timing. Either way, more research is most definitely warranted.

My plans for tomorrow? I think some job searching, some drawing and painting, some movie-watching while Alan has his interview, some walking in the woods perhaps.

We will be all right.
