Is there that one person you just can’t seem to get over?:
Maybe Randy… I think the timing was just all wrong. But he’s happy with Laura and I’m happy with Alan, so it all worked out for the best.

Would it be in your interest to travel around the world?:
I would be interested and I think it would be in my interest, yeah. I hope that I’ll be able to see some of the world someday, although we’re just trying to keep up right now. I would definitely like to live in Europe.

Would you rather be out partying or watching movies with your favorites?:
I’m a bit of a homebody. I have to be in the right mood to go out and be crazy. Needless to say, I haven’t been in that mood much lately. I’m turning into a bit of a hermit.

Is there a place you enjoy going when you just want to escape the world?:
Yeah… unfortunately I don’t live anywhere near those places anymore and haven’t found local replacements. I used to go to the walking trails down the street from my apartment, or into the woods off the trail at Old Mine Park near work, or walk out onto the rocks on the beach in Milford or West Haven. There’s nothing quite like that here.

Do you have a habit you wish you could kick?:
Laziness… I’m very lazy

What’s the relationship between you and the last person you texted?:
He’s my husband and he has a terrible texting habit. He goes over the message limit every single month, although he’s gotten better lately.

What is/was your high school mascot?:
We were the Bears and our colors were green, white, and black. And of course the most successful Bears were the Norwalk High School Marching Bears. None of our other teams even came close.

Is there something you’re itching to tell someone?:
I do kind of wish I could tell all the uber-Christians I know to shut the fuck up, but normally I can keep my mouth shut.

If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?:
I don’t really know actually. Maybe my great-grandmother. She was an interesting woman and she died when I was 14… before I could really appreciate how cool she was.

Are you an only child? Do you think you would enjoy it?:
I am and I have enjoyed it for the most part. I was always in the company of adults and there was never a kids’ table at holidays. There are advantages to having siblings though, and I’m pretty sure that I want more than one child. I do wish my kids would have more cousins than they will… if they have any at all since Zach shows no real inclination to a serious relationship at the moment.

Have you ever lied about your age?:
Yeah, I’m sure I have. I’ve gone to bars and clubs when I was underage. Ironically, I rarely went to either once it was legal for me to do so.

Have you ever done something illegal, but harmless?:
Underage drinking. Smoking pot. Speeding. When we bought chairs for our deck they forgot to charge us for one them and we didn’t correct them. Pretty standard stuff really.

Do you drink Starbucks on a regular basis?:
Not in any way you could set your watch by, but more now than I did in Connecticut.

Is there someone you wish you could fix things with?:
Not really… there isn’t really anything broken that’s worth fixing.

Who was your celebrity crush when you were young?:
Leonardo DiCaprio back when he was on ‘Growing Pains’ and later when he was in ‘Romeo & Juliet.’ He’s still sexy and all, but I’m not 13 anymore.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?:
Well, I’ll have a nine-year-old! We’ll probably be living in yet another rental somewhere. I just hope it’s somewhere interesting and not Kansas. I’m not a particularly ambitious person, so I don’t have any huge plans. I’d like to have a second child, maybe even a third. Maybe I’ll be working again, or will have done something with my writing. I think Alan will probably be a Master Sergeant by then… damn overachiever.

Do you have any plans for tomorrow?:
I intend to clean the bathroom and make some pizza dough. Exciting stuff, huh?

When was the last time you attended a wedding?:
A long time ago and I was in it. I wish I could have gone to Stephanie’s wedding, but Colorado to New Jersey is not an easy commute.

Do you know anyone who goes by the name of Adam?:
Well, his name is Adam, so…. Actually I’ve known a few people named Adam. I grew up with one, met another in college, and the last was a boy in preschool.

Do you go to church every Sunday?:
<span style="font-family: "Tahoma","sans-serif";”>Fuck no.

Why did you last cry?:
I was watching a video of a girl in a riding competition who communicates exclusively through touch and uses no tack at all. She’s deaf and she dedicated her ride to her father who had died less than a month ago. The announcer got choked up just saying it.

Are you lucky enough to still have both of your parents?:
Yes, my parents are both very healthy still, although I bother my dad about getting his skin checked every time I see him. He’s gone most of his life without sunscreen and is so dark that people think he’s Hispanic.

What is one thing that you love about yourself?:
I’m very intelligent and curious. I like to understand how things work and why people do the things they do.

Do you worry about what the world is going to be like for your children?:
Sometimes, but I also look forward to finding out.

·         Have you ever loved someone, but broke their heart?
I have no doubt.

Do you keep notes, drawings or letters that people give you?
Yes, especially the particularly meaningful ones. I don’t keep Christmas cards, but I do have the cards from the kids and their parents from when I left Bright Horizons.

Have you ever been locked in a car with a bf/gf?
Can’t say that I have, because the last time I locked myself in a car I was 2. It’s not like a car lock is difficult to figure out, after all.

Have you had a bf/gf that you never kissed?
No because I wasn’t one of those kids in middle school who ‘went out’ with anyone. I had actual boyfriends in high school.

How do you know you love someone, personally?
He makes me smile and I want to make him smile.

Would you ditch friends to be with a bf/gf?
I have in the past of course… who doesn’t at some point? And at this point in my life, our little family unit trumps everyone else.

How many true best friends are present in your life?
A couple

Do you currently have a significant other?
Yes… very significant, I think, since I married him.

Would you ever sacrifice anything for someone you care about?
It depends on who that person is and what I’m being asked to sacrifice.

Do your parents approve of the people you hang out with?
They never really had a problem with my friends growing up, because they figured that I was strong enough not to be easily influenced. They were right.

Would you be able to stand being in the same room as someone you hate?
Are we the only two people in the room or is it a larger gathering? Because if it’s just us, no.

Do you depend on people at all, in any way?
Of course. Human beings are social animals. It’s what we do.

Have you ever lost a close friend?
In the sense of death, no. In the sense of losing touch or having a falling out, yes.

Has anybody ever held a grudge against you for a dumb reason?
More than likely, but I doubt I would know much of anything about it.

Think of your current or last bf/gf. Do you/did you love them?
I love my husband… or I would never have married him.

Has anybody ever dated you only for your looks?
I don’t know. Maybe. I suppose I probably wouldn’t know for sure.

·

How often do you have to empty the inbox on your phone?
Whenever it yells at me that the memory is low.

When you get a craving for something, can you control it?
Most of the time, but I don’t see much value in controlling cravings. If I allow myself a small treat when I really want it, I won’t bother trying to fill that hole with something that doesn’t satisfy or just cave in later and overindulge.

What’s your favorite thing about October?
The weather, the colors, and Halloween

Do you like to be busy, or do you prefer sitting around and nothing?
Well, since I spend most of my life doing nothing in particular, it’s nice to be out and about when I get the chance.

If you’ve had a really busy day, what do you do in the evening to just chill out?
I collapse on the couch and watch TV.

Is your phone often on loud, or do you just leave it on vibrate?
I have the ringer on. I never notice if it vibrates.

Is there something that someone in your house does that really gets on your nerves? What?
When Alan sleeps he does this weird loud breathing where the inhale is really short and the exhale is out of all proportion. Aladdin and Karma have also started playing with things in the second bedroom to wake me up in the morning because it actually gets me out of bed. I can’t just throw things at them.

How long does it take you to get out of bed in the morning?
Thirty minutes or so… It depends on how long it takes me to fall back to sleep after my usual 4 AM wake up.

Do you hate getting up and giving speeches?
I get nervous, but apparently I’m pretty good at it, so it doesn’t bother me too much.

RYN: I was so bummed that I didn’t get to MoMA this last trip to NYC. Hopefully, one of these days I’ll either have time or be able to go a day early so I can devote a day to enjoying the city rather than focusing solely on work.
