Relentlessly We’re Dancing On
Alan’s sick.
I don’t think I’ve had occasion to utter those words once in the last five and half years. He never gets sick. But there’s something making the rounds of the auto center. One guy has the flu, another has a respiratory infection of some sort. Alan started complaining of a sore throat a few days ago, feeling a bit run down, a slight cough. Yesterday he felt like crap all day and didn’t eat more than a few mouthfuls of the chicken soup I made him. He decided to sleep on the futon (even though I said I would), and when I went to kiss him goodnight he was burning up. He’d gone from no fever when he got home at 7:30 to 102 an hour later! I’m sure it’s just the flu, but Alan (being a man and therefore a big whiney baby) is convinced that he’s dying. Fortunately, I doubt it’ll be swooping down on me anytime soon. I don’t have any reason to think that my immune system is anything but ass-kicking right now, and I had something similar last year.
For those of you who get flu shots every year, I just have to ask… Why? How frequently does anyone really get the flu? I think I’ve had it maybe three times in my life. I mean, a couple days days of suffering every 8 years. Who really cares? Especially considering the fact that the flu vaccine will cause mild flu symptoms anyway. And the vaccines only protect against certain strains. You could still get the flu. I mean, people who get flu shots have flu symptoms every year and I have them every 8. Math was never my favorite subject, but as far as I can tell, I’m definitely coming out the winner here.
I’ve been trying to be grateful this month… and finding it rather difficult. I guess I’ll just have to start fresh on my gratitude journal. As for my other goals, they’re coming along nicely. I’ve almost finished two of them and I’ve made starts on quite a few others. So yay!
And I’ve accomplished other things as well. On Monday I spent a good part of the day with my mother-in-law, sans the buffer of Alan’s presence. She had some ideas for how to lengthen my dress for Lisette’s wedding, so I went up there with the dress to see just how it will work. The top will be easy enough to take in. As for the bottom, we’re going to add six inches to the hems, but hide the seams with an accent ribbon. I hadn’t even thought of that, so I’m very glad I mentioned it to Lisa when I did. I went that same afternoon to David’s Bridal and bought the ivory ribbon and ordered two lengths of the latte. After we mucked about with the dress in the morning, Zach’s ex-girlfriend came over and we went up to The Cheesecake Factory for lunch. I’d never been, but it was soooooo good. My sandwich was huge, so I ended up taking half home, and my dulce de leche caramel cheesecake was scrumptious. I was still so full from lunch that I never even ate dinner that night. And it was a largely successful day spent in the company of someone I have not generally gotten along with.
Alan had Tuesday off, so we went and cleared out our storage unit and moved just about everything to the basement, with the exception of my wedding dress and my art portfolios. The dress is now under the bed and the portfolios are behind the bedroom door. I don’t know why I don’t just get rid of them. There are only one or two pieces I like enough to hang up really. Maybe I’ll go through it with Alan later and see if he wants any of it.
I also picked up some forms from Alisa. I have to go this afternoon to get my fingerprints done at the police station. And there’s an open house tonight that I’ll be going to (and getting paid for). Hopefully I can start soon. The whole being broke thing is getting old… especially since I’ll have another dress to buy soon. I’m going with Jen to pick out dresses next Tuesday in Manchester. ::sigh:: It’s expensive being a bridesmaid. Though Lisa was telling me that a friend of hers was in a wedding where her bridesmaid dress cost $800! I don’t even want to know what the brida paid for her gown when the maids were paying $800.
I know I haven’t posted more wedding pictures lately. The computer’s been really weird and slow and spazzy. I’ve cleared some hard drive space, so hopefully it’ll run a bit smoother now. We’ll see, anyway.
I guess I’ll be off to peruse the interwebs, maybe take a walk in the January thaw.

I don’t understand the point of flu shots either, at least not for healthy adults. Although, according to my doctor, you can’t actually get the flu or flu symptoms from the shot since they use an inactive form of the virus–likely you’re just getting symptoms from one of the strains it doesn’t cover. That still doesn’t convince me I need it. I haven’t had the flu since I was 13.

I wondered if you two had gotten married! I’m sorry to hear Alan is sick. 🙁 I feel the same way about flu shots. Now that our pharmacists can give them, they tried to con me into getting one this year, so they could use me as a test subject to get over their nerves of giving shots. No thanks! RYN: I wondered if you’d remember me!

I’ve never received a flu shot, I don’t see the point either. I think I read that they develop the shot based on the previous year’s most common strain. Anyway sorry to hear that Alan’s sick. But it sounds like things are developing nicely on the job front. 🙂

Yah for spending time with the evil MIL and it not being so bad. 🙂 It appears she can be human! And I think I may opt out of bridesmaids just to save people cash. :-p Hehe. *HUGE HUGE HUGS* Good luck with the job! I hope the center opens soon and you can start working! *HUGS*
