Not Good

I’m seriously considering finding a new veterinarian for the cats. I’ve never been particularly blown away by the place, anyway, and I’ve had my niggling little doubts here and there. The doors simply push open.  The scale for the larger dogs is in the lobby instead of safely in an exam room. They take the animals into the back even to give some of the shots. And when we brought Aladdin in for a dental exam and cleaning, they did 8 extractions without calling us first.

But here’s the real kicker… They lost somebody’s dog! The woman adopted a grayhound at the start of November and brought the dog in for some dental work just after Christmas.  Apparently, while taking the dog out to do its business, the leash got tangled somehow and the vet dropped it while he was untangling it and the dog bolted.  He chased it into the parking lot across the street, but somehow lost it.  The other staff members cleared out the office to help look for the dog, but they still haven’t found her.  And what’s worse is that the dog ran off around 1:30 and the owner didn’t hear about it until 3! When she called the office to see when she could pick her dog up.

Did no one think that maybe the dog would be more willing to come back to its owner than to the doctor it doesn’t even know?

Anyway, I’m looking into finding a new vet.  Angel Animal Hospital in West Haven has some very good reviews, but apparently the doctor there prefers not to work with large dogs.  Granted, we don’t have a dog, but we will more than likely adopt one in the future, and both of us prefer larger dogs.  Pond Point Animal Hospital here in Milford also looks promising.  I’m thinking I might drop by, just to see what the place looks like.  Do you suppose they give tours?

Aladdin still has to finish up his azithromycin for the bartonella, which means I’ll be giving Companion Animal Hospital another $105, but I think that will be my last interaction with them except for having them fax the cats’ records to a different hospital. I understand that losing an animal that way could happen to anyone, but I don’t like the way they handled it, and it comes at the end of a long line of little aggravations with them.  I’ve already scheduled an appointment with the TEAM Mobile Feline Unit to have Karma spayed at the start of February.  It’s $77, cash, up-front, when is $82 just for Aladdin’s anesthesia and fluids.  For cat-owners in Connecticut, check out the TEAM website… http://www.everyanimalmatters.com.

I guess that’s my rant for the day.  I still haven’t heard from the daycare center since I met with Pam.  I hope everything is still kosher.  She said she would drafting a proposal letter for me, and every day that goes by with nothing in the mail just makes me more and more nervous.  If I don’t get anything tomorrow, I’ll call Elisa and see what the deal is under the guise of seeing what I can do to help with their open house or recruiting new kids.

I can’t believe they lost someone’s dog! How terrible! And that’s a lot of teeth to remove without your consent. I had a vet before that I didn’t like, but luckily, I was able to find one that I love. I hope you’ll be able to find one that you like.

Ouch, that’s insane and crazy and terrible! I don’t blame you. Especially about poor Aladdin! I hope everything is still good, too! *hugs* ~*Stephanie*~

I would have been livid! I don’t blame you for finding another vet. We found another vet and pediatrician when we weren’t happy with ours. Hopefully you find a vet that you like.
