Growing Older (But Not Up)
Today is Alan’s 26th birthday and I suspect this fact is bothering him. He’s one of those people that doesn’t want to get old and being closer to 30 than 20 annoys him. I try to remind him that there’s a lot to be said for getting older and all the experience he has now and how much more he can do than when he was 20, but I don’t think the fact that he’s the oldest guy in his unit except for his sergeant. That means he’s outranked by guys younger than him. I think that once he gets past it and into "grown up" mode, he’ll get over it. He’s actually doing pretty well at work. He was in the Rear Detachment, but that part of the unit was dissolved and he’s now in HHT and actually getting down to doing his job. Unfortunately, now he can’t tell me a lot of what he does during the day, so that sucks. His sergeants have told him more than once that they’ll be holding him to a higher standard than the younger guys and that he needs to get the NCO prep books. I hope that means that he’ll be on the fast track to sergeant.
We’ve been talking about kids. It seems like all we’ve done is talk. It just seems like we keep pushing it back. It’s made a lot of sense, but I do want to have kids before I’m 30, and Alan seems to forget that it’s a lot closer for me than for him. LOL. Again, I think he’s having a bit of rebellion against being an adult, but it’s not like we have to suddenly become middle-aged. I don’t Alan realizes that, because he’s had a lot less contact with the parents of young children than I have. Basically, he’s just being cranky lately. Hehehe… Hopefully the fact that I’ve baked him an awesome cake, mopped, vacuumed, and cleaned the house will cheer him. And we’re having spaghetti with meat sauce for dinner, which we never have because I don’t like pasta sauce. I’m trying to make him happy.
I’ve always had the feeling that when I do get pregnant I’ll end up with twins. My grandmother is a twin, which is apparently quite common for a 5th pregnancy. I’m a little surprised none my cousins are twins too, and sometimes I think I must be a chimera. LOL… It just seems like parts of my body just don’t match, so they must come from different people. And there’s always a part of my brain that’s separate from the rest. Like a little part of me is completely unaffected by whatever else is going on and sits back and commentates.
I’m going to start looking for a part-time job, too. I’m bored! LOL… and a little extra cash wouldn’t hurt. I’m also going to start writing more. And I decided to do "The Sketchbook Project," which I’m looking forward to seeing the results of. Anyway, Alan is home (yay!) and NCIS is on (my new addiction). ^_^

I got that way when I turned 16 – I didn’t want to be a grown up! A part-time job or volunteering would definitely alleviate some of the boredom. I heard somewhere that twins skip generations – maybe your family is skipping two and you’ll end up with the twins ^_~ That would be pretty funny! *hugs* I hope you’re doing well otherwise! ~*Stephanie*~

RYN: I love that quote from The Ugly Truth! I saw that in the theater and I definitely need to get my hands on it. 😉 And, as it turns out, I’ve actually DONE the 50 questions thing and already HAD the link saved! Lol! But I think I’m going to re-do them again and be more in depth about them like you are. 😉

What is “The Sketchbook Project”? And good luck with job-hunting and getting a good job that you enjoy. 🙂 And poor Alan and trying to cling to his adolescence. 😉 I too hope he gets into “grown up” stage, both in his job and about having a family. 🙂 And I totally feel you about being addicted to shows like NCIS. I LOVE CSI:, the ORIGINAL. *GIGANTIC RIDICULOUSLY HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE LOVING HUGS*

We have this rule in the newsroom at my school paper. The TV only has news or sports on. I’m mostly okay with that, but on Wednesday nights, our adviser always seems to forget this (his) rule, and somehow NCIS is on. I’ve never paid much attention, but it looks cool.
