Fun Day, Rough Night

Today work was a lot of fun, just as I had thought.  It’s nice to work with people who are nice, friendly and hardworking.  Before work, I made everyone string bracelets with hemp and one little glass bead each.  They were all well received.

The bringing in weird foods didn’t really work out.  I brought my sardines and two tangerines.  Fun ate one of the tangerines, but nobody even tried the sardines.  I ended up just giving them to Sparkley.  Dancey brought in some cupcakes, but only three of them got eaten.  Sparkley and Fun didn’t get the chance to bring anything in, but that was fine.  Someone, maybe one of our many visitors, brought in a plate of pizza, which was awesome.  One of our customers gave us an eggroll, some of those crunchy things from the Chinese food place and a couple of fortune cookies.

My fortune said: The only way to have a friend is to be one.   There were actually two of them in my cookie, but they said the same thing.

Sparkley’s said: You are patient and careful.  That’s funny, because she is totally neither of those.

After our second shot of espresso, for some reason we got really tired and found it hard to concentrate.  I kept coming up with weird ways of putting it.  The first one was, "I feel like I have to sort 10,000,000 assorted sprinkles with a broken pair of tweezers."  The next one was, "I feel like I have to unicycle up a mountain, and I don’t know how to unicycle."  Another one was, "I feel like I have to peel an orange with only one hand."

When Sparkley left, I still had a lot of stuff to get done.  The music hadn’t been on all day, so I decided to find myself something uplifting to push me the rest of the way through the night.  I found one that was called, "The Circuit."  The Muzak website described it like this:

"The Circuit is a high-energy mix of contemporary as well as classic dance, R&B, pop and rock styles. What separates The Circuit from other programs is the consistent minimum BPM (beats per minute) of 132. This mixture of constant energy and tempo best lends itself to fitness and workout environments."

I gotta tell you that it got me really amped to bust out the rest of my work.  My heart was beating really fast and I felt like I just drank a cup of espresso.  I managed to finish everything earlier than normal, with good quality.  It felt good.

Only downside of my day was when we couldn’t get Tots to go to sleep.  Lately, he’s been going to bed around midnight, which is nice.  Today, he fell asleep in the car around 12:30 with Pi.  He woke up the minute we got home and there was nothing we could do to keep him down.  We hate doing the "cry to sleep" method, but it was the only thing that worked.  We stopped hearing him cry around 2:15.  Yikes!

I love sardines, actually. I never used CIO with the kids because I thought it was a useful method to get them to sleep, I did it when I was desperate, and could take “no more” of them. I’d turn on the fan so I couldn’t hear them! Sometimes they are so tired, that’s all you can do. Glad you got through your work day. DD is closed on Thanksgiving, isn’t it?

Yeah, sometimes the “cry to sleep” method is the only way. Sometimes they just need to get past a hump. Monkey always cried a few minutes before he fell asleep. I should ask Sprite if he still does that. *winks*
