You get two kinds of heros in a military sci fi books. One the hard chargeing take the hill at all costs superhero type. Then you have that poor SOB that just does not know how to stay down no matter how many times he gets kicked in the balls :0… In the Orphan series by Robert Buettner you get the poor SOB.
Its a good series and worth picking up if you enjoy mil. scifi. You know its funny I really wanted to join the mil. when I was younger. For that last umteen generations my family was mil. When I went in thou they told me I was to fat. 🙁
I worked my ass off to get the weight off but I put on alot of muscle and did not lose alot of my roundness. I still could not fit the pant size to get into a ROTC high school when the final enrolement came around. So I went on and passed thru school earning top honors in math and science. Then my Sr. year of high school I started takeing college placement tests and scored high I mean really high..lol.. Then every branch of the armed forced was calling me daily two three times trying to get me to sign up. All kinds of promises were made to me. It drove my mother nuts.
In the end I told them all to go to hell. I was to fat for them at 14 and they could not afford me at 18 😛
