oh, how the heart, it beats
song: silent way – artist: milo greene
Before I get to the entry, can I just say this? THE NEW MILO GREENE ALBUM CAME OUT ON TUESDAY AND IT IS, IN A WORD, MAGNIFICENT! Personally, I’m finding it right up there with Bon Iver, Bon Iver from, of course, Bon Iver. The Bon Iver album still ranking in the top spot between the two. Where Bon Iver, Bon Iver dazzles with the layers of sound, be it instruments or voices, I find Milo Green dazzling for the delicious harmonies and delicate melodies. It’s on Spotify, if you want to do your ears a favor.
So, that six month break? It just kind of happened. I don’t have any exciting or exotic stories about it. I think after the first month or so, I just decided to indulge the desire not to write. And it didn’t take long to get to the place of just fully wallowing in it. Then came the twinges of missing this, all of this (I’ve actually been checking in sporadically, and then lurking on the regular, in the last little while). It was time to come back. Then I saw sweet, sweet, wonderful Helen’s note and that pretty much sealed it. 🙂
And having just checked to see what photos I have on the hardrive that might weave together a tale of some of the highlights of my time away, I’ve discovered I haven’t sucked anything off the camera since January. I haven’t been carrying my camera around super regularly since it makes my purse heavy, but I know it’s gone on a few outings since then. We can look forward to being surprised together. In the meantime, who wants to take a look at January?
In January, I turned 28. To celebrate, I made my own birthday cake. My own FUNFETTI (from scratch) birthday cake, frosted in pink with pearly sprinkles on top! Behold, the evidence that, perhaps, cake frosting/decorating should make it onto my "Things to Learn, Now that I’m an Adult" list:
before frosting
after frosting & sprinkles
the beauty within!, also the evidence that the oven racks are slanty, and so is my cake
That weekend, I had an appointment to get my hairs did. So, uh, if you hadn’t figured this out yet, I have a thing for pink. Which I noticed after getting home and readying myself to go out to a movie. Check it!
I likes me some pink!
The funnest part of this haircut was the pink extensions that were glued in! There were four. Most of them held in there for four months. (I went over six months between cuts, but that is a story for another time. But… I’ve got new hairs again!)
Mid-January we had a day of wonderfully warm (though still too cool for my decision to head out in short sleeves, sans jacket) weather. So my mom and I went for a walk down by the river. The summary from Facebook:
Adventures down by the river! Saw a heron in the parking lot. Sadly, it was because it would never fly again. Also saw a dude with a sweet eyepatch. I didn’t photograph either of these things, even though I brought my camera.
I did get some other pictures, though.
hello, Keeper of the Plains
and again
Then there was learning along the river. Let’s learn together!
After this walk, I came to the conclusion that Samuel J. Crumbine might be one of my favorite people! I wonder if he would be as big a fan of Bath & Body Works’ PocketBacs, with the handy little holders, as I am. I like to think he would be.
