a brief glimpse
because that’s about all I’m good for at the moment.
I’d headed into the library to return a few items. it seems they have a whole host of young volunteers these days. most of them men, actually. or at least it’s the men I’ve interfaced with the most when I’ve gone in. today was no exception.
I added my items to the number of piles already on the counter as the young man behind it leaned over to look, scoot them closer to the rest and utter a very sincere sounding, "Thank you." I smiled, nodded, and listlessly wandered the fiction stacks as I contemplated whether or not I was in the mood to pick anything else up.
as I’d come in I had heard a little boy asking his mother if they could do something (I missed what the something was) and she told him, "No, after this we’re going to DINNER!" and he responded as enthusiastically as she had. while I was wandering, they made their way to the counter and the little boy let it be known that he was going to read all of the books they were checking out. "I’m going to read like… every DAY!" and the sweet, sincere and very kind young man behind the counter responded with, "Really? Every day? That sounds fantastic!" and so an exchange ensued; a little boy, quite effusive in his love for books and a young man that wasn’t required to engage him and who took it upon himself to be just as enthusiastic and listen and ask questions.
there really is beauty in the every day.
🙂 yes, you restore hope for me. thanks.

Oh, I love that. Watching strangers interact and seeing them be open and engaging.

I wish I could be more like that with people. I don’t ever seem to have it in me. 🙁

This makes me smile – thanks. 🙂

there is beauty in every day, everything and everyone. you just have to strain and squint sometimes in order to find it. with you, no wrinkle inducing expressions are required – yours is obvious in every way.
