Domestic goddess
Total baking fail today.
I figured since I’m now a full-time mom, maybe I should start figuring out how to do a few basic "mom" things. Like cooking. I can’t cook at all…my mom never made anything more complex than ramen, and I really just haven’t had much reason to make lots of food for most of my adult life. But at some point Baby is going to need to eat real food, so maybe I should learn to make it!
I decided to start with brownies. Which kind of goes against the whole idea of learning to make healthy food for my kid, but whatever. I like chocolate. And knowing my own limits, I just got a box of brownie mix and tried to follow the instructions on the package. I seriously don’t know anyone else would would have fucked that up.
So I confidently followed the instructions, and mixed up my brownie batter, and it said to pour it into a baking dish. The only baking dish I have is really huge, and once I poured it in I realized I needed to at least double the recipe or I’d end up with 1/4-inch thick brownie crunch.
I had only gotten one box, so I grabbed Baby and we went back to the store and got another box. Got home and started mixing the batter, and realized that I had used the last egg on the first box. So we went back to the store AGAIN and got eggs. I finally got enough brownie batter that it looked right in the baking dish.
So I put it in the oven.
Two hours later I was happily playing with Baby when Noah (who was working from home today, and watching my baking attempt with amusement) asked me if the brownies were almost done. I yelled "shit!!" and ran to the kitchen to rescue the brownies that were surely burned to a crisp.
And discovered that I had never turned on the oven in the first place. Go me.
So, no burned brownies, and once I actually turned the oven on and set a timer, they turned out pretty well.
lol been there! If you have a want to cook you’ll do fine, it’s fun once you start getting the hang of it 🙂

lmao that is awesome. My future sister in law (I think that’s what she’s called) is kinda like you with cooking, never needed to, until she moved in with my brother in law, he convinced her once that if she didn’t get up and go stir the water in the pot (waiting for it to boil for Mac and Cheese), it was going to burn! lol
