Raccoons, interviews, and cartoons

Holy funk, I haven’t updated in like 2 weeks. I haven’t been doing anything that would make me too busy to write, either. Oops!

I’ve been working a lot. The last few weeks of my assignment weren’t planned out so well, so it means I spend a lot of time at work desparately trying to think  of things to do. Several times lately we have resorted to watching cartoons online, particularly Home Movies. I’ve been kindof ticked at the arborist where I work though, because sometimes he says inappropriate things…. like, "a lot of those city workers don’t even have high school diplomas! Many of them are also loose cannons". He also said, out of anger, that one man with the city can "lick my you-know-what". Professional, yes?

Anyhoo, I will be done wth this program in less than 3 weeks, WOOOO. I do still plan on moving to Rochester, but I’m a little nervous about it because of the way their program is set up (namely, the fact that I won’t know exactly what non-profit I will be working with until a week or two into the program). Today I have 2 interviews for a position with the Red Cross (Indiana Response and Preparedness Corps), one in Fort Wayne and one in South Bend. This is a back-up in case I can’t move. It’s not exactly what I planned on doing, but it still could be a good experience. Interviews always make me damn nervous though! I always approach interviews like tests though, and do a thing kindof like studying, focusing on things usually asked in interviews– I research the place I’m interviewing for and type up something about why I want to work there, type up some of my strengths and weaknesses, a time where I was met with a challenging situation and made it better, and a few questions to ask the interviewer.

Have you guys ever seen the show "Flight of the Conchords"? Oh geez, I am in love with them. Best show ever.

I went to San Franciso a week or so ago. Saw a band named Lucero, which is a dirty, indie, southern kind of country/rock. It was actually pretty good and the crowd was pretty chill, and I had the experience of waiting for a bus at 2am in a seemingly deserted part of the city. The sign on the bus stop said the bus would be by in 18 minutes, so we went to find a dumpster for my friend to pee behind (classy, I know!). Of course, as she’s peeing, we see the bus roll by. Sometimes I don’t show emotion appropriately, so I just pointed and said, "Uhhh….. bus? I see the bus and we aren’t on it". The next bus was coming in 35 minutes or so, so it was fine.. I was just so damn tired.

I like San Francisco but can’t believe how many people live there. Houses as far as the eye can see, and people in every crack and crevice. I did see the Full House house, but wasn’t touristy enough to take a picture. I really haven’t taken many pictures at all this year. On the drive back I really want to stop and take pictures of everything I see that is interesting.

Oh, Renee, do you have an atlas by chance?

The other night I came downstairs around midnight (I never stay up that late) and there was a HUGE raccoon in the house. It knew where the pet doors were AND where the cat food was, so when I saw it it had it’s long ol’ fingers in the catfood. I went upstairs to get Karoline who came down wielding a mop, but it was nowhere to be seen. The sneaky dude went out the catdoor while I was upstairs. It knows the layout of the house! I told the grandparents, and we’ve been hiding the cat food overnight so it doesn’t have a reason to come in.

In other news: I have a small splinter in my palm that is itchy. The horror! Also, Paul is back from Peru so we have been talking a lot. I’m glad he’s back, but he’s leaving for DC soon so is trying to get everything figured out for that.

Well, my interview is soon. I should go look around some more on their website.

I will leave you with this:

Weeee hi there! I’m rather appalled at the arborist’s behavior, but a lot of professionals are, well, unprofessional, I’ve learned. Harrumph. You seem to have the right strategies for interviews, though, so that makes you a million bazillion times better than that guy, or the vast majority of the job market i’d wager. The raccoon thing is cool but weird at the same time. I guess raccoons aren’t quite so cute when they’re indoors though! I hope your interview went marvelously!
