Hippies are totally “in” right now
So yesterday felt like a pretty long day. We had to be into work before 8am so we could get to the tree planting demo site by 830. That really wasn’t a big deal, except I was freakin’ exhausted from coming in at 645 the previous day (and staying up until 230am the night before!). Anyway, everything turned out fine. After the demo we passed out trees, which basically involved a lot of heavy lifting. My back is kindof cranky today, and I am eagerly awaiting the day we receive our back supports. Some of the trees are really freakin’ heavy, especially since we have to water them whenever we move them anywhere. We also have these tree stakes we had to pass out… they are called ready stakes, and are metal and probably 8 feet long.
We spent all afternoon doing databasing. Yay! I mean, it does get pretty mind-numbing but can be fun if you’re working with the right people.
Oh, one of the only radio stations we could get in the van yesterday (a beat up dodge van donated to the organization) was a death metal station. First we laughed at how silly we sounded, then spent a good chunk of the day trying to come up with death metal songs of our own. A pretty much fool-proof formula for some kick ass death metal is to sing something sweetly, then immediately scream it afterward.
The deeeemons are taaking my soooouuul, THE DEMONS ARE TAKING MY SOUL!!! THE DEMONS ARE TAKING MY SOUL!!!
Oh, and also lots more screaming, sweet guitar riffs and drumming at super sonic speed.
After work several of us were going to go to an Ethiopian restaurant, but it turns out we had directions to the wrong place and it was closed down anyway. The best part was probably the hour and a half we spent trying to find a place that no longer existed (though we had directions to the wrong place anyway). After a while we all decided (thank bob for cell phones!) to meet up somewhere else.. some place called the Sonoma Chicken Coop. I had the garlic chicken alfredo and it was actually pretty good, though my vegetarian friends didn’t fare nearly as well.
There were 15 of us there, which is definitely the majority of the group. It was actually really fun and I’m glad I decided to go at the last minute. I might be going hiking today, though I’m really not sure.
After Meghan, Karoline and I got back to the house Ian picked me up to go to some party at one of his friend’s houses. On the way we also picked up a guy named "Tree Paul", or "Hippie Paul", and that was kindof interesting. He was perfectly nice and kindof funny, though he was a little too crude while talking about women and played the whole "Hippie" schtick too much. I like people who just kindof are hippies, and don’t have to mention it every 15 minutes or so. It gets old, you know?
Anyway, the party was a little lame. His friends were perfectly nice, though I definitely felt like I didn’t fit in. The girls tried way too hard to be sexy, and the guys tried way too hard to appear cool and macho. Definitely not my crowd. Ian isn’t anything like that though, so I was kindof surprised. Oh, Ian is a "blue’s man", has a uniform that really just consists of pants, hiking boots, flannel/button down long-sleeved shirts, and suspenders. He spends a lot of his time performing at open mic nights and farmers markets. He is pretty cool, though some of his friends seem so different.
So I was at that party and felt pretty bored, so I did my usual thing (left, walked around for awhile) though luckily nobody noticed. After a little while we ended up leaving, made the hour long drive back to San Jose, and I ended up getting to sleep probably around 2am. Oh, and the time changed today so I technically woke up at 8am… that would be sweet if I had somewhere to be early this morning.
Man, this entry is long! Okay, I should probably shower now.
Sounds like you’re meeting a colorful crowd atleast. haha, you singing along to death metal? That’s hilarious! 🙂 Work sounds more intense as I read your entries. It soulds like you’re able to stay on top of things, though. And yes, hippies are still cool in my book…. as long they don’t smoke pot around me. 🙂
