Boyfriend and internet***

::sigh::

Well, yesterday was a busy day at work. We planted 8 new trees near a public pool in a SJ neighborhood. It was really fun to get dirty and really do some physical work, but one of the girls I was planting the tree with was really, really getting on my nerves. I mean really, if I’m the one doing all of the work (and the only one thinking, mind you), then I think it’s okay if I let you figure out where to put the stake yourself. Oh, you don’t want to do that? Fine. And yes, a little more complaining on your part does help the day go a little more smoothly.

Later we walked around and removed old stakes our organization had given to people, and the same girl didn’t understand the fact that it’s a courtesy to tell people when you are coming to remove a stake off of their tree. Sure the tree is planted in a parking strip which is technically public property, but they are the ones that have been looking after the maintenance of the tree for the past 2-3 years and in my opinion should be notified. But hey, I guess she can express her opinion as much as she wants about that. Whatever.

Everyone else around there was cool though, of course. Planting days are good for me because I get energy and am not afraid to step in and take a leadership position. I was put "in charge" of the list of addresses that needed stakes removed, and was pretty okay about telling people where to go. I was really jumping around in the dirt though and "getting my hands dirty" (both literally and figuratively), and as a result my shoes broke. Oy, now I’m going to have to invest in some good, quality work/hiking boots. I also need khaki pants (as part of our uniform) and rain gear (because yes, we plant in the rain).

After our planting we went to a park downtown and did a "tree tour"… yikes, I’m still having such a hard time identifying all of the trees we are supposed to know. I guess I should study.

Oh, good news! I finally got to see Paul last night. I drove up to the hotel where he had been staying around 8pm and we had dinner with Eva and another of her personal aids. I had a calzone in a fancy schmancy restaurant and it tasted like crap… plus they charged Paul $17 for what was essentially fettucini alfredo with vegetables thrown in. After dinner we went to our hotel. Paul picked up a 6-pack and we hung out for awhile, eventually falling asleep around 1am. We woke up and got some breakfast at the hotel (continental breakfasts are usually crap.. and this one was no exception), had a good ol’ time, and I had to take him back. We stopped and got some coffee, and not he had to leave not long after that.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Paul left today, though it was originally supposed to be tomorrow. Eva’s dad was cool about the whole wreck; he flew to SF and took the van to the shop, and in the mean time they got a rental. Needless to say, Eva’s dad is the only one who can drive the rental… so they left today. I’m really, really happy I got to spend some time with Paul though, and want to make a trip down to Diamond Bar for the weekend within the next 1-3 weeks. He really makes me very happy, and I don’t want to ever go too long without seeing him.

For some reason my wireless connection for my laptop isn’t working… I’m only online thanks to my ethernet cable. What makes the wireless connection stop working? As far as I can tell the other computers in the house are.

*** Magic! Right after I posted this entry my wireless connection started working again. Hopefully my computer feels better… I got rid of some spyware and whatever else. I don’t really know anything about computers though, so hopefully I handled this correctly.

Do you have a fieldbook? I suggest getting one, since it teaches you how to identify trees/plants. It takes some practice, but you’ll get the hang of it. 🙂 I’m glad that you were able to see Paul! And also glad that the father cooled his jets. I was afraid he was going to make Paul pay for the both damages. Again, talk to the locals about good resturants that are reasonable price. 🙂
