WHAT IS A BUBBY DAY?-read

Someone wanted to know what is a BUBBY DAY. Well the short answer is that it is a day when I take one of my grandchildren for a couple of hours –  just me and them.
Now here’s the background. When my eldest was about nine months old I told my mother that I was going to hire a sitter once a week. Well she wouldn’t hear of it. So from then on my mother came to babysit once a week for how many hours I needed her. This continued for many, many years. No matter what was happening in our world we could always count on my mother to come every Thursday. She went to the bakery and bought food and junk for the children’s supper. She played with them, took them to the park, bathed them and gave them and my hubby supper. The children loved her. When she got older and couldn’t manage alone then I would pick her up and go to the bakery with her and bring her to our home and helped her to baby sit.
So when my grandson was about eight months I took him for a walk to the park. After that walk I started to babysit every Thursday. It’s a bit more complicated now as I have two additional grandchildren and I just can’t take them each once a week. So I take my grandson once a week and the other two once every other week.
I do various things with them. Sometimes we go swimming. Other times bowling. We go out for donuts. Sometimes we go to McDonalds. Often we end up here and the children can play on my computer. We might play a card game. We might watch a video. We always have supper together with my hubby so he gets into the act too.
It has been a wonderful experience for all and I hope to continue until the children feel they don’t want it anymore.
Hope that explains what a BUBBY Day is. Actually the term was created by my new DIL!

Oh, how I wish my mother was that kind of person. My children (and me) would have given anything for a bubby day.

That is so touching! What a wonderful mother you had. I would have given anything for someone to babysit like that!
