TO GO OR NOT TO GO
I AM DEBATING WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD GO TO THE SYNAGOGUE TOMORROW MORNING.
I USE TO HO ONLY ON THE HIGH HOLIDAYS.
AFTER MY HUSBAND DIED I STARTED TO GO EVERY SATURDAY IN FLORIDA. I ENJOYED THE EXPERIENCE. IT WAS A HUGE SYNAGOGUE WITH A CHOIR, MANY PEOPLE AND I ENJOYED THE RABBI’S SPEECH.
WHEN I GO NOW THE EXPERIENCE IS FAR DIFFERENT. THE TURNOUT ON SATURDAYS IS VERY SMALL. I NEED MY HEARING AIDS FIXED SO I DON’T HEAR A WORD OF THE RABBI’S SPEECH. THERE ARE VERY FEW WOMEN. TEN IS THE MOST. THE WEATHER HASN’T BEEN GREAT SO I GUESS THE WOMEN DON’T WANT TO WALK OVER. I DRIVE BECAUSE I AM NOT RELIGIOUS. I GO/WENT BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WOULD MEET PEOPLE. THERE IS NO ONE TO MEET. I ALSO FIGURED THAT IT IS SOMETHING TO DO SATURDAY MORNINGS.
SO NOW I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. THERE IS LIGHT, VERY LIGHT REFRESHMENTS AFTER THE SERVICE. I DON’T STAY BECAUSE I FIND IT HARD TO STAND. I WAS PLANNING TO ASK THEM TO PUT CHAIRS AROUND BUT I HAVEN’T. I GUESS THEY DON’T WANT TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO SIT AROUND. ALTHOUGH I DON’T KNOW WHY UNLESS IT IS MORE EXPENSIVE TO PAY THE “JANITOR” FOR THE EXTRA TIME PEOPLE WOULD SIT AROUND.
SO I GUESS I’LL DECIDE IN THE MORNING. THIS IS A QUIET WEEKEND FOR ME. NO PLANS WITH FRIENDS AS THEY ARE BUSY ELSEWHERE. I AM GOING TO SEE A PLAY ON SUNDAY.
I too have problems hearing in a group meeting like you describe — recently I saw a man adjusting his heaing aids with his cell phone…he could adjust the amount of sound to match his need, because as we know people speak in various tones and we lose certain sound levels. Â I am going to look into this kind of hearing aid. Â Being in groups, being able to hear satisfactorily is so important to our not being isolated as an elder.
Warning Comment
I already have an appointment to get my hearing aids checked out.
