SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

I want to make a toy with my grandson. Today we went to the store. I bought a toy which is in a round plastic see through tube like thingie. Anyhow inside are beads and different small items. What you have to do is search for about twenty items. You can shake up the beads to find the stuff. Anyhow I was wondering if there is anything I can use besides beads. The Dollar store didn’t have any beads. Maybe I need to try another one. So what do you think I can use instead of beads? Can I use salt, sugar, rice or will food spoil over time. I would like to use something that is coloured. I guess I could use food dye to dye the rice etc.
It’s a bit like Where’s Waldo!
So I would appreciate any suggestions. We won’t be making them until next Thursday.

Macaroni is an old favorite for craft items. Colored pipe cleaners or popsickle sticks? Anyway, it sounds like fun!

seeds?

The books on the Shelfari shelf are ones that I’ve read. They go back two years. I love the books by Smith! He’s a prolific writer, so if you start reading him and like his writing there are a lot of treasures waiting. I guess the most popular of his series is The #1 Ladies Detective Agency books which they made into a series for HBO.

how about….dried beans? dried corn kernels? an acorn? a wee small seashell? coins? Michaels craft store sells wee tiny shapes or figures you can glue onto your crafts projects to pretty them up…. they would be good to put in the tube. How about a safety pin? a thumbtack? a pebble? hugs, Nicky

How about dried beans, dry macaroni, marbles and/or stones (you can usually find colored ones at the craft store), seashells, or coins?

I make things out of pipe cleaners and beads. What are some of his favorite things. I have made pictures with beads and pipe cleaners in shapes such as sports type things for Corey. Zach likes animals. Desiree can do it all on her own now. They grow up so fast. Love,

Rice sounds good. If you use sugar, put a few grains of rice in the container and that will keep the sugar from getting hard. Lentil beans, dried corn, or any other dried foods. If you want a very light container, you might use dried rice puffs, the generic kind at all supermarkets. Of course the cereals will not last as long. If the container is totally air-tight, it might last forever as long as all items are totally dry when you put them in there.

Brown rice.

rice would be just fine. or macaroni. or dried beans. there’s all sorts of things you could use. have a good time. take care,

What a fun activity to make!! Lots of good ideas here. How about jellybeans? I do think something multi-coloured would be best otherwise it’ll be too easy to find the things.
