I FEEL LIKE SUCH A FAILURE-read

I can’t believe it. Last night we went to our friend’s for supper. I was doing my knitting. A friend asked me to look at it. Would you believe it? She told me it was all wrong. The tension was wrong. The sweater I was making for my grandson, size 2, was much too big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What could I do? I ripped the whole thing. Maybe I just have to give up on my knitting but I can’t. Yesterday I went to a special store where the wool was sold by the pound and I spent 60. So I have to keep on knitting!!!!!!!!!!!!

A good thing to do before beginning a garment is to knit a square according to the tension guide in the pattern. It usually tells you there should be a certain number of stitiches in an inch. If yours is too big, just use smaller needles…

Don’t give up. You’ll be so pleased with yourself when you get it done right. And it will be a nice gift for your grandson.

My land. Knitting like writting has a purpose. But none is right or wrong. You have your own style. What is this critique trying to hide from self? I am sorry you fell for such a tactic that was meant to point out how “good” I am and how well I can bring you down to the level I feel about myself. The only time I fell for that stuff is when I agreed. Often I was wrong because I was listening to

“them” and it is not the way to polish a diamond. You polish your own diamond (you) by seeing the best in self and striving forward. NO ONE can tell you who you are. You are the judge. Others opinions simply tell you more of who they are.

At least your friend only gave you her opinion about your knitting. My MIL once looked at something I had crocheted and SHE ripped it apart, literally. She said I had the stitch wrong. Don’t be disheartened. Patrisha is right. Do a little test swatch before you begin the garment. If it’s too big your grandchild can save it for later.
