HANUKAH PLANS
Before I left for Florida I left my grandchildren eight presents each for Hanukah. They are sitting behind the bar in my house. My son is suppose to go there to pick them up before the holidays. To make it easier for him I used large bags from the Dollar store and each child has a different colour bags. I am sad that I won’t be there to celebrate the holidays with them but what can I do. I thought about going home for the week but our house is closed up – no water – no internet and I wouldn’t have a car so I’m staying here.
Meanwhile I am busy planning a Hanukah party here for our friends. My friend is helping me. Usually I do it alone but I decided to have her help. It is much more fun this way. Tonight we went to Carrabas for supper. They served dessert in little shot glasses so I am going to buy some from them and will use them for the party. I am not sure what we will fill them with – berries and jello????? Any ideas? I will serve deli with all the trimmings. I will have appetizers. Of course I will make potato latkes. Usually I make them as people walk in and I still will but mostly I will make them the day before and just heat them up. Last year I realized that it was too hard to do it at the last minute for so many people.
My friend and I are going to decorate a Hanukah bush. I’ve never done it before and not really comfortable with the idea but I think it will be different and fun. I was thinking of getting a PINIATA but haven’t yet……………..My friend will play some music on my accordion. I am suppose to accompany him but I haven’t had time to practice. He plays by ear. I am looking forward to the party although I get nervous before the party. I am starting to plan and prepare way ahead so all will be fine. I think we will have about 25 people.
I have to mail the blanket I made for my son’s girlfriend. I have to show it to my daughter as I am not sure it is ok. I made one like it years ok so this time I wasn’t exactly sure how to make it. I might have to start from scratch but it doesn’t take very long.
I also have to wrap the gift we bought for my daughter. She said she didn’t want us to give her anything because her university is so expensive but we knew what she wanted so we already bought it for her.
I bought some things at the dollar store to give out as loot bags at the Hanukah party. Guess I’ll have to get that ready too.
Not too busy this week but I am making supper Friday night. Not sure what I’m making yet. Some type of soup and some type of meat!!!! Tomorrow my daughter is coming and I think she is also coming Tuesday night.
So that brings you up to date.
I feel wonderful and I am so grateful that I am feeling well and not in pain. Tomorrow I will go swimming again. I am debating about doing twenty on the treadmill and twenty in the pool. I don’t know what is better. I have a friend who is a physiotherapist so will ask her two cents next time I am at the pool.
Have a good night.
Are you keeping kosher? Can you do dairy in the shot glasses? Chocolate mousse? Or Zabaglione? Both of those have cream though. It is possible to make an extremely delicious chocolate mousse with avacados. You can also do a very lovely chocolate ice cream kind of thing with frozen bananas, maple syrup and cocoa which is, obviously, dairy free. (Dr. Weil recipe from his site)

Here’s a dairy free recipe that sounds like it might work but I haven’t tried it. http://www.recipezaar.com/Non-dairy-Chocolate-Mousse-100807

Ohhh Carabbas! I LOVE it. =] What about candy in the shot glasses? I do not know much about Hanukah celebrations so I am not sure if you would have a candy. Say something small, like M&M’s, maybe?

haha my friends and I are getting a christmas tree for our apartment next year (one of them is christian) and although I am really excited frankly I do feel a bit uncomfortable too. My parents wouldnt be thrilled either and my grandparents… oy vey lol. As for the gifts great idea (I love the dollar store) and I like the shot glass idea. Jello would probably be cheaper to make if its for a lot…
