FIFTEEN AND PREGNANT?- back on my soapbox-OK

I watched a movie last night and there’s another one on now. Girls fifteen and pregnant! In this day and age with so much information and contraception around I can’t understand how girls fall for a boy’s lines. Are these girls missing out on love? What is their home life like? The boys just go off and get someone else pregnant while in many cases the girl is left with the baby.
I think society has so many BAD affects on young people.
SOCIETY pressures the young to:
BE THIN SKINNY – JUST READ ANY MAGAZINE
-sex is all – just look at all the  ads selling sex not clothes(ABERCROMBIE? BUFFALO JEANS?
-NO ONE HOME TO LOVE AND CARE FOR CHILDREN
Material things are all important.
What should happen to girls that get pregnant and boys that run off and refuse to take responsibility?
How can we keep girls from getting pregnant?

I think that it should be law that the boys should take responsibility or go to jail. Period. And the girls should certinally know better for sure. It’s not like when we were young. The only thing we had to worry about was the STD’s. I understand that those are bad but not as bad as AIDS. But then it’s also the parents fault for not knowing who their daughters boyfriends are either….

i remember being 15 and i can’t imagine being pregnant at that age. it was difficult enough at 19 when i was married!! i don’t understand young girls wanting to get tied down with a child so young. the boy should be held responsible… his parents if the boy isn’t old enough. take care,

Girls who start having sex so young are usually looking for love because it feels like they don’t get much at home. Boys who get girls pregnant, in their way, were looking for the same thing. Parents don’t have time for their kids anymore! Parents who do, rarely have kids in these situations. hugs, Weesprite

I worked really hard when my kids were young to teach them that sex was NOT a recreational activity. Period. I taught them about safe sex, and hoped that they’d utilize all the methods and information out there if they did decide to indulge. But it was clear in MY household that that was not acceptable. I got lucky, I guess, cause no one got into any trouble that way. But truthfully? In thisday and age, you get pregnant because you either Want to, or are just too ignorant to take advantage of protection.

Woodsprite is right. And if you don’t feel secure – you can feel pressured into taking risks that you know damn well you shouldn’t. (yeah, talking from experience). Its like drugs – the best way to reduce the risk of your kids being involved with drugs – or pregnant – is to try and make them feel loved, happy and good about themselves…(so easy isn’t it????!!!)

Woodsprite has it right.

I agree with you. Its all too sad! At fifteen they really are still kids. But society can only blame itself and take responsibility for them as much as the parent should. We flaunt sex on the tv and movies, they all think its the norm. Its the same down here in NZ……. I do agree too that the boys usually get off scot free…my kids fathers did! hugs P
