CHILDHOOD MEMORIES-edited

I think my best childhood memories are of the country house we use to go to when I was quite young. I am not sure how old I was. The location was about two hours north of here. The house was owned by friends of my parents. It was a huge house with at least ten bedrooms. Each bedroom belonged to another family. In the middle was a kitchen. It was located on a hill a few feet away from a lake. It was very narrow where we were but after a few feet it widened.
In front of the house was a metal piece which was very hot if you stepped on it without shoes. OUCH!!!!! There was a large front balcony. Often a very old lady sat on a bench or chair in the front. Maybe she wasn’t that old but she certainly seemed old to me at that time. I remember my father spilling milk over my head on that balcony. I was never a good eater until I got much older. Now try to stop me!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!
I remember rowing a row boat with a whole lot of people in the boat. I always loved rowing and still do although I don’t anymore because of my back. I remember there was a hotel on the other side of the lake. I think they were relatives of ours. One summer I stayed there with my grandmother. The hotel was owned by five sisters.
I had a boyfriend at one point. We use to row the boat to LOVER’S ROCK. I think we wrote on the rock – don’t remember how.
We use to go to a farmer where we bought fresh milk, cream and eggs. Many years after we stopped going to the country I took my mother back and she reunited with the farmer’s wife who was very old at the time but remembered my mother.
Friday nights were the best. We stayed in the country all summer but my father only came on weekends. I remember sitting at the kitchen table looking out the window for my father to drive through the narrow road over grown with grass.
In front or our house grew natural rhubarb which my mother would gather and cook up.
I had many friends in the country and we always had a great time. For many years after we stopped going I would take my children there to see the house. We would park near the hotel and walk to the beach from where we could see the old country house. When it was no longer in use we would climb in the window to look around.
The last time I was there with my daughter the house looked very dilapidated and I decided to never go back.

that’s very sad that the house was allowed to fall into disrepair. don’t blame you for not wanting to go back. take care,

What vivid, wonderful memories!
