BRIDGE FIGHTS-ok

It happens almost every week but tonight was one of the worst "fights" at our bridge game. We are 12 people at various levels of bridge knowledge. We have a few like my hubby that are whizzes. They know the game backwards and forwards. Then there is me and another few who are not that great. Well one of the men who has great card sense kept "picking" on one of the poorest players. Finally the poor player told him off. He said that often we talk about him! We do! He is my late friend’s hubby! She always had to tell him to be QUIET! He never learns though. He doesn’t understand that for some of us it does NOT come easy.
I am not sure what will happen. I think the man and his wife might not want to play anymore! This will break up the group.
My friend always took the part of the one her hubby was "yelling" at for playing stupid. I use to be intimidated by him but got over it. I am playing better and I think he tries to control himself when he plays with me. The poor man who got "yelled" at is just NOT a good player. However he is not the only one that the man picks on. I guess no matter what age we are we still pick at the weaker ones.

Whew! I’ve heard bridge is like that! Brings out the worst in people. I wonder if he’ll learn if the ‘other kids’ stop playing with him? I have a 50 year old friend who pouts when he loses Scrabble….

My Dad picks on weaker players, too. He always says, “How else will they learn?” I usually reply: “By playing, and watching and asking questions. Give them time.” We play pinochle a lot. Well, we used to, until Dad pissed all the new players off so much, no one would play with him any more. Ya’ll ought to make a pact that no one will cricitize any one else’s playing and if someone breaks thepact they have to get points deducted or something. That might stop him right quick! =)

This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. I never knew Bridge can get this tense. Maybe you all ought to have a referee to call the shots. Poor guy getting bullied like that.

Thanks for your notes but I can not read them because somehow they turned out blank. Must be OD being buggy.

I would not play a game with people who think that yelling at others is a part of how the game should be played! hugs, Weesprite

I used to play bridge, but haven’t for more than 20 years. I just wanted to enjoy the social part of it and I didn’t like people who took it so seriously. I didn’t feel “dumb” if somebody was better than me because it was very hard to stay interested if I didn’t have a good hand. To me, games are GAMES. I think it is true that men are mostly better at bridge for some reason.

Owl’s mother was a whiz at bridge and otherwise she was a very stupid person, so I don’t think it necessarily has to do with intelligence.

Heh heh – I thought this entry was going to be about the bridge collapse in Minnesota and then the other one yesterday in China.
