I went to Space Museum yesterday night to see another film in hkiff. The name of the movie is called “In My Father’s Den”. The movie had a great ticketing in New Zealand and got quite a lot of prizes. However, this movie is the debut film of that director.

Yesterday i went to SM on time, and there were not so many spaces in the threatre. I wanted to sit in a seat besides one of the foreigners. However, it was just like something calling me “Dun sit here”. So, i found another place to have a sit. After a minute that i sit down, i saw a girl went to the stage and asked the audiences to have a welcomed to the director of this movie. And magically, the director is the one who i wanted to sit beside before. XDD

The director just said the things that is quite normal like “Feel happy to see everybody here” and “welcome to see my movie”…. and left the stage. Then the movie began.

The movie is really very good. The story is very good that provide a way to audience thinking. It is agreed that you need to see the movie more than once. There are clouds in the movie. There are many things that you need to think throughout the whole movie. However, it reveals the truth when the movie is about to end. I needed to think a lot and match the ending with the scenes in the movie after I am going back home.

This movie is the first movie that I watched using the Director skills I learned in a course. As a result, althought there are Chinese sub-titles, I cannot focus on the story itself. So I really used quite a lot of time for questionning myself, what is the meaning of the things he said. What is the meaning of this phiz? What is the meaning of…

ai… I think i musta miss sthg that I need to know. So if there is one more time that i can see this movie(on the cinema or VCD/DVD), i should go and see that.

The story begins with a man, Paul, who came from somewhere and joining to the funeral of his father. In the funeral, he is just standing outside. Why he does so? The whole movie is developed based on this question.

Firstly, Paul was built up by the movie that he is not a good guy. When his father died, he didn’t join the funeral. And after the funeral, he wanted to go away quickly. His brother, Andrew, blamed him a lot.

However, Paul didn’t really go out, he thought of the things that happened in the past. The good memory of gathering with father when he was young came to his mind. Then, he stayed in this small town. He found his ex, who is a mother for 1 daugther and 2 sons now. But he didn’t want to get together with her. What is/are the reason(s)? This is also a question that the movie wanna brings to the audiences.

Later, one of the girl, Celia, who is the daughter of Paul’s ex, liked him. Celia tried to make him liked her also. However, Paul doesn’t after he saw and knew something. Paul saw a photo, with the name and date on the back, found in his father’s atlas. The atlas contains fulled of his news, and this photo. All the audiences(including you, reading my poor English:P) must think that Celia should be his daughter, right? XD but the things is not so easy. As the mother (Paul’s ex) said to Celia, “If the thing is so simple, that’s so good.”

As Paul and Celia have a very similar character, they soon become friends, a close and best friend.

However, there are something happened in the movie. One day, Celia disappeared. All of the people in the town want to find Celia out (This is a small town, all the people treat others as friend). As everybody knows Paul is the closet friend of Celia (some even think that they have sex), they always make Paul in trouble, like beating him or getting away from him. Paul even didn’t know where have Celia been. But one day, he said to the Police, “She may gone to Spain as this is her dream.” However, Celia’s mother find that Celia hadn’t bring the Passbook along. So, this is not true. Paul doesn’t have any ideas but always think of what the life was when Celia was with him. yup, he have no ideas about what happened.

One day, he got some ideas from his cousin, the son of his brother. He know he could find the answer from his brother. So, he called his brother out and force him to tell the truth.

At Last, all the truth is revealed. And all the things are completed.

I cannot think of anything while i left the auditorium in one moment. I even walked a wrong way to get the mtr. haha… will i become Paul? i think some of my characters are quite like him. i dunno.
