The Pirate’s Life for Me……..

I have this delightful assortment of pictures that I’ve taken of G at Disneyland over the years. Some have been misfiled, and I’m not any too sure of the year on others. Then again, is it ever important to know what year it was when you were at Disneyland? Forever children, that’s us.

Here he is in 2002 carefully posing next to the fake train. They did do a good job on that engine, I must admit. You can watch us grow older in our Disneyland pictures….older and fatter there next to assorted Disneyland icons. Our backs bend in a bit here and our middles bend out a bit there. Our hair grows greyer, and some years smiles are harder to find. Sometimes we are wrapped warmly in sweats, other times shorts and sandals are the norm. But every few years, despite the weather, our bends, or our souls, you can find us acting like us at Disneyland.

Tomorrow, well before the rays of the sun consider showing themselves, we will be heading north toward Disneyland. The mom, dad, and grandkids who live far out in the mountains are also heading up the coast to celebrate the birthday of their oldest boy. He’s been moved a group home of bit north of us, and now that he is eighteen he will have to be moved again. At about ten years of mental age, he knows what’s happening in his head. He also knows he’s not like other boys his age, and he’s angry about this. His fight with schizophrenia has been a hard one, and we all hope these Disneyland days will momentarily lighten his struggle.
