Reading Down The List.
Amusing me in the last few weeks were the number of stray books that managed to sneak into my reading pile. Not all of them got finished. Yet. The previous list was completely read and returned to the library.
Sleeping with Cats, Marge Piercy
The Bishop Goes to The University, Andrew M. Greeley
The French Chef Cookbook, Julia Child
Life Of The Beloved, Henri J. M. Nouwen
S.S. AMERICA U.S.S.WEST POINT S.S. AUSTRALIS, Lawrence Driscoll
Shoes. Linda OKeeffe
Sleeping with Cats is half read and is the biography of a highly praised writer and poet. These writers bios arent always well done, but this one is. Its worth keeping as are the other thrift shop finds of the week: Shoes, and The French Chef Cookbook.
Oh, Im one of those inveterate readers. If there is nothing else happening in my world, I immediately poke my nose deep into a book. Unlike the television and computer preoccupations of many of the current generation, my enthusiasm is portable. My backpack usually has one or two books waiting for me, and on days I work, I also add the Smithsonian, Newsweek, and our local rag.
Oh yes, Ive subscribed to our local paper again. Much to my dismay, I discovered that no one at the Historical Society has kept up with the Subject files since the late eighties. In fact, there are few clippings from the nineties at all. Hopefully no undocumented major items of historical significance happened in the 1990s which will be needed by researchers. Ive fallen into the position of defacto keeper of the files, and we will have to wait to see if I enjoy it. As long as I dont become obsessive about it, I should survive in fine fettle.
Reading down the list:
Bone Hunter, Sarah Andrews
The Silent Woman, Edward Marston
The Merry Devils. Edward Marston,
Grimmer Than Hell, David Drake
The Primrose Switchback. Jo Bannister
The New Basics Cookbook, Jullee Rosso & Shelia Lukins
I actually spent some time reading this week-end-what a treat! If I’d ride the bus more consistently, I’d have more reading time too. I saw your note regarding smoking-good for you! You’re doing great! xoxo

I’ve read a few by Marge Piercy. I’m never sure afterward whether I’m glad I have read them – unusual for me.

I love to read. I get lost if it is a good book and nothing gets done.

I recently found a book store at West Edmotnon Mall that sells books SO VERY CHEAP and I bought 6 books for 19 dollars. I love books. Most of my friends don’t get my fascination. But my best friend does and usually supplies me with 75% of my books, as she buys them reads them and then passes them to me.

i love half.com for finding those hard to find books for a reasonable price.

RYN: No, I didn’t have a book and I was kicking myself for that. But I did have a notebook so kept myself busy writing in that.

I need to read more than I do…of course, once I start on the “new path” I will be embarking on soon (of which you know through email.), I will be ammdending that situation rather nicely, won’t I? 🙂

A nice eclectic pile. I have to admit I was briefly transfixed by my own reading pile before logging on to check my email. I have totally unreasonable expectations of what I can actually read as I used to consume huge quantities of books as a child. Sleeping with Cats is such a great title. 🙂
