Loop de Loop

Singing and laughing our way up the coast at dawn got us to Disneyland half an hour before opening.

“Perfection,” he said as he checked the bags, signed us into our room, and gathered our park tickets into his wallet. “We can do this.”

Did we want to take the monorail? Oh, such deep questions that needed answering. On vacation, this is about as deep as we ever feel a need to go. No monorail. We also needed to find out what kind of dinner might be available out of the park in the new downtown district. Catal was in our price range when others were either too cutesy or far above our cash on hand.

In deference to G’s squished back nerve, we didn’t go on our favorite ride…”Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom.” Gentle crushing was allowed though, so we started with the revamped Pirates of the Caribbean and worked our way around the park. Often I thought of Blather who used to work here. Often we laughed and held hands.

We could do this.

Lunch was a homemade peanut butter and jelly sandwich then on to the next ride. You bet we had fun with nonstop enjoyment of the rides while dodging every single teenager in Southern California….for the all came to Disneyland this day. It was a holiday.

Wore us out it did, and we had a ball despite tired backs and feet.

We dragged those tired parts back to the hotel, changed out of levis…yes, I said that, and people watched our way through a light supper at UVA Bar…part of Catal. Revived, we found a corner by a fence near Tom Sawyer’s Island to watch the new show….and were blown away by delight. Disney engineers created pure magic from color, light, and sound on water. Blown away is putting it mildly. Damp too.

Suffice it to say that there is no low cost breakfast at Disneyland either.

After half a day of wandering around California Adventure where half the rides were closed, we headed home with a wall of black at our backs. In the morning, we woke to news that LA had suffered one of the most severe storms since the thirties.

Disneyland was wonderful. Every child of any age should get a regular dose of this world of fantasy to carry them through the not so fantastic times. For those of picky eye, maintenance was less than perfect this trip. Definitely deferred. It was a first for us to see areas on sides of buildings without paint. It was strange to see parts of this magic kingdom so in need of care.

Home to work, home, sleep, then do it again today. Tomorrow is Saturday and dinner with the Professors night. We have fire story’s to share and Disneyland details.

We can do this too.

Did you see the pictures of the humongous hail in L.A.? Glad you missed it. The fireworks at Disney World rocked too! Carrie

With wife gone and kids all grown and on their own, Dsneyland would not be fun like it was.

I’m jealous. Sounds like a great time! Didn’t get to go to any theme parks on my trip. Too late in the year and too busy having our own party on Halloween! Hugz

The last time my parents went to Disneyland was the first time they had ever gone without kids. They decided that kids were needed in order to enjoy the experience, so they spied a group and followed them for the rest of the day. Fortunately the kids recognized that they were not being stalked!
