The Goings On
The title is really bad grammar.
Twin and I went to escrow and signed the paperwork for the house. Where we are at now is one of the sellers signed last night (she showed up when we were there) and the other seller should have signed this morning. Once underwriting has done a final look-through on the paperwork making sure everything is signed the keys are ours. There are some things to work out with a check we are supposed to be getting, what its for (Contractor improvements we figure) and how that works.

In the next couple of weeks we will pack and get ready to move. We have to get some outdoor equipment (lawnmower, string trimmer at least) and we want to begin shopping for a fuel efficient car. We are buying used. I have a few models in mind, and are reported to get 35 MPG at least:
Saturn S-Series, the SL (Sedan) or SC (Coupe) doesn’t matter.
Honda Civic (# or doors or package doesn’t matter, I would prefer a hatchback though I think)
Those are the favorites… other ones we could consider…
VW Golf. I’ve read they’re much more reliable than modern Beetles.
Mazda Protege
Aside from the cost of a new car, which the Chevrolet Cruze is the most attractive to me I really don’t want to invest money in a technology that should be dying. Oil is becoming increasingly scarce. I rather buy something with that kind of money that is going to be economical in the future. I would buy a Nissan Leaf in a heartbeat, but that’s way more than we’d want to spend. Then with a Front-Wheel Drive car maybe we will be able to do this: http://green.autoblog.com/2012/08/01/middle-tennessee-state-after-market-plug-in-hybrid-kit/
… I also need to find out more information on working with utilities on solar panels, I have heard there are leasing programs to install and pay for having solar panels on your house/lot. I also need to find out more information on wind-power. Lastly in the realm of sustainability, I think we will be collecting rain-water to use as we see fit.

There’s not a whole lot other than that stewing in my mind. I have spent a fair amount of time on the http://www.fourthturning.com/forums reading what different people are conjecturing about cyclical history and politics.
After signing the paperwork at escrow, we met with Twin’s parents and maternal grandmother and then had dinner with them too. There was good conversation discussing LG and DLion and unhappy campers. LG crashed and fixed his Jeep last week without telling anyone else. DLion and LG may not be getting along as well as they did at first; so there was talk about their relationship. That turned into observations of DLion. We also speculated what a LG apartment is going to look like. He shows no interest in cleaning his room. Clothes are usually all over the place, clean and dirty on the floor. Then dresser or nighstand surfaces are covered with candy bags, candy wrappers, gatorade bottles, soda cans, and the occasional empty jug of chocolate milk. Heh – one time there was a week old Arbys’ Cherry Turnover on his nighstand. Whether LG is ready or not, he is now an adult and he gets to make his own mistakes and learn from them (or in other words, mature).
Congrats on getting the house! It’s exciting that you’ll be getting the keys soon 🙂 Fedja is antsy for whenever it is that we”ll be able to sign and get our keys. We’ve both been obsessing about it and figuring out all the things we want to do with it. I hope you take pictures when you move in!

Wonderful that buying the house has moved forward now. I remember with our first house, it seemed like we went to Sears every weekend for the first month or two to pick up this or that.

Glad things seem to be moving ahead quickly with the house stuff!

I too, would collect rain water if we had enough of it. You could have plenty back in WA! Best of luck with all of those endeavors. Any way, are you excited for UW football to start? I am counting down and am excited to watch on a big screen at my favorite bar. =) Going to a real game in November too… even though it’s at CU Boulder… and it’ll be an easy win. =)

ryn: well D is of the mindset that his job won’t last forever, so he’s going back to school to get a degree. He only has his GED at this point so he’s going for a computer science associates degree and then on for a bachelors. his work pays 100%. they only cover computer/technology type reimbursement though, otherwise he would’ve gone for business management.
