Hyper-Activity
The Sun is out here, again despite forecasts made late last week. This is great – I have a chance to get out with Twin and kayak the lake. If things pan out well, then we’ll be able to hit the water again Friday, maybe salt water that time.
Friday we went out and bought our discs for Disc Golfing, but had some trouble locating a course. After we finally found one, it ended up being the same one SagChef went to play with a friend of his. We chatted with him just a little bit, but he was just about done and we had to find a restroom before starting. He was in the woods when we arrived a second time, and we were in the woods when he left.

Saturday, I ended up kayaking by myself after completing the laundry. Twin tweaked a shoulder muscle Friday night playing Disc Golf and stayed home and cooked dinner and a side dish for Easter dinner. It was actually pretty windy, and when its windy its always the same wind pattern: Wind funnels ESE into Lake Union, and then WSW from the U-District. Once you’re on the other side of the University Bridge, the wind is ESE again into Portage Bay and WSW from the Montlake Cut. Basically, the wind funnels through the channels, under the bridges into the wider spaces of Lake Union and Portage Bay. The lake was moderately busy with boat traffic. I paddled my typical route through the Arboretum and the lily pads were starting to reach up from below the surface. There were some turtles sunning themselves and one actually swimming. That was pretty cool.
On the way back the wind was the same, but out on Union Bay the wind was blowing due South. There was actually someone getting ready to Wind-Surf in the bay, which can get somewhat choppy because it is pretty shallow. There were some sailboats out there as well. This trip takes me usually 2 or 2.5 hours, but took me an hour longer with the wind and waves (some from boat traffic, but the wind helped carry or steepen the wakes).

Sunday was a lot of time in the car, but wasn’t so bad because it was sunny and scenery could be observed both ways. We picked up CapChef from her work and the trip began with some french pastries. The conversation in the car with everyone was pretty good, discussing some current events in the family that I won’t necessarily share here or at least openly. We made good time because there was hardly any wait at the Border Crossing. There were more current events discussed once we arrived and throughout the day. The nicest thing is that everyone has finally realized that tons of candy is no longer desired, and that Twin and I have started a movement towards eating better even though everyone else is much slower in adapting.
That’s pretty much my weekend. I am so happy that the sun is back and the temperatures are starting to become more normal. I have received a little too much sun on my face a few times in the past couple of weeks. Kayaking tonight, maybe Friday. Tux/Suit fitting Saturday, maybe Disc Golf besides that (and a meal with my mom), then Sunday who knows? The next weekend we’re looking at Skiing Saturday rather than participating in a "Duwamish Alive" event. Good times are ahead.
I played tons of golf and got a bit burned around face and neck, but man am I happy for the sun and a reason to be outside.

Where do you play disk golf? I love playing. I call it frolfing (frisbee golfing).

I sure wish I had a river near here that I could kayak whenever I felt like it! 🙂
