Exceptional
I am not. I’m not exceptional. That’s probably my biggest disappointment with myself.
I often model my behavior after others. That’s my adaptive coping mechanism derived from my childhood. I can’t really get in trouble if everyone is doing the same thing. I can’t be picked out of the bunch objectively if we behave in the same way. I’ve often thought that the individual is smart, but the crowd is (chaotic) dumb. I avoid large groups because of that notion.
I’m not exceptional, but I did act like it back then. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for that and that I didn’t realize the error of my ways until I was no longer experiencing such things first hand.
Do we write to convince ourselves that we are exceptional? That we deserve the spotlight as much as the next individual? Is that out of entitlement? Are we here to relate to one another, or prove to ourselves that we are special, unique, or any other term that may described as…well, its been said. If we truly wrote to just record our experiences, wouldn’t we just write private entries only? If we wanted to share our lives, wouldn’t we invite other people to be apart of the reality?
It is human nature to over-reach. Animals aren’t inclined to be happy with status quo.
I think everyone is exceptional in one way or another. Sometimes many. I have always kept a journal. But not until OD, when I could be anonymous, as I chose, did I ever share my writing. I write to document, reflect and yes, I do like to have others opinions. I like comments. good entry, made me think. but yeah I do think I like the attention too.

RYN: Actually no. My mom predates the baby boomers. Both her and my dad are Roosevelt babies, meaning they were born before the end of WWII. My dad was actually born during the Great Depression. My mom is the last of the Roosevelt babies, born during FDR’s last year in office. Still your point rings true in a sense. Due to her age, she tends to be rather conservative socially. She wasn’t always, but in her old age she is increasingly so. That’s pretty typical though. Many people move more to the right as they age, at least that’s what most political scientists will tell you.

RYN: oh no, that is not a turbo badge. Would be cool if it were a turbo! 🙂 It’s a standard, but the last standard I drove was a prelude and SUPER fast. This is not as fast lol

i think we all like approval and validation….not to mention feedback. at least that’s why i write pseudo-publicly. my main goal is to write for myself so i can look back on my life (which I do actually find myself doing more and more), however it does help to have some sort of audience. to bounce ideas/thoughts from, to provide sympathy/encouragement, etc.

ryn: We did have the inspection a few weeks ago, and the seller is working on the repairs they agreed to do which is awesome. I’ve heard too many horror stories with the disposable cameras. People don’t know how to use them anymore, we’re too used to digital and seeing what we are taking a picture of. My sister did the disposables and got a lot of pictures of ears and nothing.

I think we all write for ourselves but of course it would feel good to just about anyone to feel as though what you are saying is important, and to be in the spotlight occasionally. Write whatever you want for yourself only, I say!
