::peeks out from my hole::
I wonder if anyone still reads me here….or is interested in my little daily life.
Because I’ve been AWOL.
It’s just been a combination of sickness taking its turn through me, Art, Lexi and then back again to me. We finally all seem to be on the mend, that paired with just….the busyness of life and my being lazy…wanting to write and choosing to watch old seasons of Grey’s Anatomy on Hulu instead (side note: I started watching Grey’s on Hulu just to have something to watch…how come no one told me how good this show was before!? I’m hooked! I’m about a 1/3 of the way through Season 2 and there are 8 seasons and they are still going! No one tell me any spoilers!).
I want to write more and take more pictures and post them.
I want to eat healthier with the warm weather and all the yummy fruits and salads coming out now.
I want to really enjoy this summer as it may be our last as a family of three. We are in the adoption waiting game now. We could get THE call any day, week, month or even YEAR now. Seems like forever ago that we were waiting for THE call that brought us Lex!
I want to live more frugally as Art’s business hasn’t been going great with the economy AND we are lower than I thought in our savings. I had a little fight with Art about that, I wanted to be told when it got near a certain number….and he waited longer than I am comfortable with. Anyway, we got over it. We are giving ourselves a year to see if we can turn things around. If not, we may have to move. The house/taxes are just so high here….but if we put our house on the market, we’d lose a LOT of money because we bought at the top of the bubble. Sigh.
I could go back to work but that would mean putting adoption 2 on hold. I can’t tell a principal, "hire me but I could be going on family leave at any moment. " And it would mean putting Lexi in preschool/daycare which is expensive.
Of course we could stop adoption 2 and just let Lexi be an only..but we know a sibling is good for her.
So, to wrap this up, Lexi had her 3 year check up today (3!!) and here are her stats:
weight: 29.8
height: 36′ (3 feet tall)
50% for both height and weight
Physically on target with all milestones
"Very advanced" (pediatrician’s words, not mine) in mind development; reading at about a 2nd grade level at age 3, writing her name and one or two other words and drawing people figures with traits that don’t usually appear until age 4’ish.
Counts to 100 by ones, twos, tens.
VERY curious about everything. When she was crying at the appointment because she doesn’t like being poked and prodded, she stopped crying long enough to say to the doc, "why are you taking off my diaper?"
Which is the final thing: the diaper. She is more stubborn and strong willed then I ever knew. She has told me clearly that she doesn’t want to bother with underwear/potty because she likes to keep playing so diapers are better for her. She TOLD me this. She gave me an actually logical reasons why she wants to stay in diapers. She CAN use the potty, she just doesn’t WANT to.
Pediatrician said to just leave it alone. That’s it’s developmentally and emotionally best for her to come to it on her own. That we should just drop it, don’t mention the potty or underwear. Let her stay in diapers until she decides she’s ready; that its not really that big of a deal.
I feel better! I was feeling all kinds of bad mommy-ness because she wasn’t potty trained. Now, I can just repeat to myself, "the doctor said its ok. the doctor said its ok. "

She’s amazing. Let her keep the diapers. She’ll decide to be rid of them soon enough, and she CAN READ!!!!!

She will get there. I taught 1st grade for many years and never once had a student show up on the 1st day of school in a diaper.

So hard to believe Lexi’s 3! Hope things get better for Art’s business. Things are really tough now.

I’m totally impressed by her reading!

My 2 year old is advanced like your Lexi(yes, I’m biased, but our dr. agreed) and yet she has NO interest in potty training. She actually told me(when we first tried to potty train her) “I’m done with this!” So, as of now, she uses her potty as a chair to read in while I’m using the big potty. Son’t you just love the toddler independence??

I am still reading. I have been gone also. My diary was deleted and I had to start over. It was sad, but I am getting back to it.

my youngest grandson was about 4 when he got out of diapers. and all it took was a week of a few m&m’a every time he went on the toilet. she sounds very smart for her age and will get out of diapers before she goes to kindergarten. take care,
