1961-2011
I spent the morning comparing the cost of living from 1961 to 2011. This is what I learned. Yes, I made the graph myself. Really puts things into perspective doesn’t it? Gives all new meaning to everything is going up but our wages. I’m going to forward this to my local leaders. Feel free to do the same.

wow, that puts it in perspective. And the most rise in cost is going to school. Just amazing. Thanks for sharing this.

Sadly it’s all part of the fun Chicago school experiment the world has run on since the 1970s. Keep wages near enough static and wealth accumulates at the top thanks to inflation and interest. Then I suppose it’s of vital importance that the rich can continue to buy private islands with the money they don’t spend on tax…

Well, that’s quite the difference. A 500% increase in minimum wage, and almost everything else you listed was over 1000%. And there are actually serious proposals to do away with the minimum wage entirely.

I like your graph. I believe minimum wage should be $10, although I believe there are some workers not even worth this … some are in unions …. and are protected from the firing they deserve.

Hi! thanks for your note 🙂 I wish we could know if that’s true now. It would be so relieving to know that this doesn’t end here 🙂
